Can't get on

#1 Post by Tervueren » Tue Apr 17, 2007 6:25 pm

I suffer with osteo-arthritis and am finding it increasingly difficult/painful to get my leg over :smt003 To get on at home I use a caravan step and then I'm ok till I want to get off which can be a tad embarassing, I don't want to give up the Falco so does anyone know of such a thing as a mounting aid :smt003 :smt003

Local lad in his 60's with 1 titanium hip just climbs on his gsxr1000 footrest with the stand down and swings his gammy leg over :smt001

Would probably work with any other sidestand apart from aprilia

Why don't you put gsxr sidestand on your bike then?

How about a collapsible library step.

Or how about one of these single steps for caravans, the 360x210 should be able to fit into a tank bag

http://www.milenco.com/steps.html

You could also fit a folding post to it so that when you're on the bike you can pick it up easily.

(sorry .... If I'd something more helpful to add I'd do so .... but couldn't miss the open invitation for another spot of schoolboy humour)

Does it keep the bike upright enough to stand on the footrest then.
I'm toying with using some kind of block to put under it to use just for getting on/off

I'll try it at lunch time and let you know (if I can get away from my desk I may manage before lunch).

Well I tried it:
  • Footrest snapped
    Headstock snapped
Bike fell over on top of me
I'm writing this from the orthopedic ward ....
.

Nah - easy peasy - fit yourself a GSXR sidestand - in most situations it will give the stability you need to get on and off using the footrest as a step.
Maybe you need to keep an eye on the state of the footrest itself given Bigun's recent experience .... but there again, he's not called Bigun for nothing ....

BTW, just so as you are aware, the GSXR stand does require a bit of fettling to fit (at least if you want to retain the Falco sidestand switch).
It's worth the effort though.
I'm pretty sure the info is posted here somewhere - a search should find it - If not one of us will post it up again.
(I keep meaning to make a set of "How To" guides for the common questions but never find time to get round to it)

..... one day ......
