Hi,

I am looking for a pair of fork top caps with the adjusters for a standard set of Marzocchi forks on a 2002 Falco.

Has any one got some surplus to requirements or know of a set of written off forks with some which are ok, as mine need replacing after having the forks serviced last year. The dealer managed to butcher the nuts, fill the forks with too much oil & the seals have blown.

I replaced the oil with the right viscosity & volume and must say that the forks do work much better having done that, but seeing the graunched up nuts and oil leaks is like having splinters under the finger nails & really pisses me off. Not had much chance to use the bike since, due to running a business, duff health & caring for an elderly relative, that & the bike not running as it was before the attention of the said dealer which makes it unpleasant to ride.

No joy on evil bay to date.

I haven't logged in for a while as I'd forgotten passwords etc. (managed to get back in now as you can see, so have emailed myself details, (too many cotton pickin passwords, logins etc to remember).... I may be a bit slow with any replies...

Sorry I can't help with the fork top caps Rob, but just a quick question.
I always thought that only the later Falcos had the Marzocchi forks, are you sure that they are Marzocchi?
Simple check is - are the main fork top tubes gold or black?

NO NO NO NO NO !!!!!!!!!

I repeat again there are black showas, there are gold showas, there are black marzocchis, there are gold marzocchis.

The easiest way to tell is by the pre-load adjusters - the showas screw in and out but the marzocchis just go round and round (as do the wheels on the bus).

I seem to remember that one of the makes has their manufacturer id symbol down at the bottom somewhere.

I have posted pictures in the past of the adjusters - once you look at them it's obvious EDIT - found the pics and posted below


However, Howard is right that 2002 bikes were fitted with showa forks - so unless someone has swapped them over, I would expect them to be showas.

You can differentiate them by the pre-load adjusters. The Showas screw in and out of the top of the forks, the Marzocchis adjustment is contained within and the adjusters just look like they are going round and round.

....and you'll notice both pictured fork pairs are gold !

Definitely the Marzipan ones, but I lied, it's the 2003 Olympic Bronze (rust!)

Oy - less of the "rust" - 'tis one of the best that they only allow a select few to ride (though somehow randomsquid got hold of one - we'll never know how)

BUT I have only ever seen Showas in black and Marzocchi forks in gold, although I do lead a shelterd life here oop north in Yorkie land.
Now we know that it's a "rusty" bronze 2003 model we know the obvious answer!
Sadly I still cannot help with the parts needed.

I think you are probably correct Pete, however both black and gold marzocchis were fitted to the later bikes over here - so you cannot tell showa from marzocchi by colour.

BTW no Falcos had Factory stickers - you probably mean the "R" stickers that were applied to some US models

Though a couple of bikes in the states did appear to have factory decals applied by a dealer.... I think I remember a post about it on af1

Don't think either of those two places are anywhere near Yorkshire, so I can be excused for not seeing them!

Plenty of pictures posted and actually there will have been some gold showas on bikes in the UK as there was a batch of US spec bikes sold here - one or two have been on this forum (Fastasfcuk's bike for one)

.... and both colours of Marzocchis will certainly have graced the northern parts of the UK.
