What's wrong with the OE shock

I had an Ohlins shock on my Falco and the rear end was great. I sold it and put on a low mileage OE shock. The preload is cranked up to max and I can't change it at present and the bike feels fine. I'm only commuting, but I'm wondering why everyone hates the OE shock?

Ride it down a twisty, bumpy back road and that'll answer your question ..... unless you enjoy uncontrollable pogo sticks

'tis very odd, as folks suggest using the falco (bolts right on) shock as a 'better' replacement for the original Cagiva Raptor sachs job. Am guessing it has better adjustment than the sachs (?)
I've always had the OE sachs (three of so far)

Have to try that :smt003

I've also realised I often don't use all that Falco power in day to day riding. I've been using the throttle more and it does feel like waking a sleeping giant.

I've never really minded a poor rear end unless I was pushing. Adds a bit of fun to the experience :smt005

Don't let Pete hear you say that. Especially when he's wearing his pink hat...

But in answer to the original question - it's crude, harsh, has limited adjustment and no matter what you do in terms of adjustment, you can't make it any better. It boils down to the old truism ' you can't polish a turd'.

I was convinced I needed to get the seat (and pillion seat) re-upholstered when I was using the OE shock. A ride of no more than 50 miles was (quite literally) a pain in the arse. I fitted an Ohlins shock and went to the South of France with no discomfort of the derriere.

It's shit, basically.
