Fork Tubes

Had bike down at ohlins guy here too set up my suspension...oil on tubes and the seals been replaced. bike only done less that 200 miles...tubes are wasted

what's the score on new tubes how much and where the best? guy here says he can get them. standard front showas i have no dramas in letting him get them but just asking out of curiosity??

ALSO

oil leak but can i find it!!!! oil cooler area but can't find...rear tyre knackered now as dripping from tail of b/pan onto tyre....

put engine sealer in too try but after about 140 miles still leak tho tin says 200 miles.....

what's best way too find the leak??

Can't you get the tubes re-chromed? Quite a few places offer that service. The best ones will re-chrome and grind to a smooth finish. I'm surprised a suspension guy doesn't have a plater that he sends work like that to. Should be cheaper than new tubes.

If you've got an oil leak, then the first thing is to remove lower bodywork and give the engine a thorough degrease and clean. Then run the bike on a paddock stand and do a fine tooth comb check of the engine. You should find the source of the leak that way. When riding the oil gets blown about and confuses the issue.

200 miles - that's crazy!

The plating on mine is a bit worn but hasn't really deteriorated since I've had them. Certainly more than serviceable. I had the seals replaced before I fitted the forks (a good few thousand miles ago) and they are fine. I did loook into it a bit at the time and some reported that the ohlins seals were not so robust and had fitted Suzuki seals instead as they are more robust.
I mentioned that to John at Revs but he advised to stick with the Ohlins seals (better-performance - they stick less).
If I remember correctly those that had problems tended to be those that didn't ride regularly - thus failing to lubricate the seal/tube interface through normal use.

Revs also do titanium nitride coating in black or gold which would look well swish.

The gold nitride coating on mine has worn a little but not got any worse in 3 years. Seals have also been fine but I keep mine on the paddock stands (rear at min, both if it's going to sit for a week or so) in the theory that it spreads the weight a little more evenly. Seems to work (I hope). Agree with the comment about moving them to keep it lubed.

NO ohlins on front...standard falco.

my seals were gone and replaced, it's the new seals that seem too be leaking as when pumped the suspension up/down there is excess on tubes.

not sure if a place that would be able too sort them out over here!!! would prefer new ones, i was told about 90+ each so i'd be happy enough with that then it would be supplied by (clarence bell think it's PLR suspensions) them and the suspension serviced by them.

Got days off coming up and yes the bike will be up on stands and ticking over....def from oil cooler area as the rest of the engine is bone-dry.

Re the new tubes, i take it you mean the sliders? try ABE on 0280 858 9052, they can do you new sliders and maybe able to re-chrome and grind yours

Scotty, didn't realise you were across the irish see. i'm sure there are plenty of guys able to do it over there :smt001
