Tell me about the fuel pump

I sprayed some starter fluid into the airbox, and bike catches and does its best to start. It kind of does start for a nano second.

This now leads me to believe that my problem is a fuelling issue.

Anyway, looking at this picture of the fuel pump, can anyone tell me which direction the fuel is pumped, and where the fuel is picked up from?

Image

Is it pulled through the filter then pushed out of the tank at the bottom of the fuel pump, or is it pulled through the pump and push out passed the filter?

Secondly, if you want to drain the tank, how the hell do you removed the the OEM hose clips?

I think.. (from past)

Fuel enters via the inlet underneath the plate,( not seen in that pic) which has a gauze strainer and into the pump after that it pressurises out thru the filter to the fuel regulator and on to the injection side of life

Any excess pressure is released back at the regulator and comes back to the tank

..has been a while since I looked at one though and even then it was while someone was working on it in the pits so i could be wrong.

so the fuel pump pumps fuel upwards around the little looped hose and into the top of the filter?

Yes thats my take on it. Im sure if you undo the white body of the pump away from the base plate, then between the pump's inlet and the inlet pipe youll find a gauze filter

Cheers. The filter hose had come off.

Now where can I get a return fuel hose, and some hose clips?
