Need to replace the needle roller bearing on my RSV swingarm.

Anyone have any tips on how to get it out, the lip for the o ring prevents knocking it out from the other side.

Why do I need to replace it? I have had the arm polishing and I protected these bearings with a threaded bar and large washers covering the holes.
I think the polishers took this off, why, as it was obvious what it was for.
So both bearings were full of polishing compound and the bearing sounds likes its running in sand. Tried washing out with parafin.
The other side was so bad the bearings wouldn't move. These have been replaced.

I haven't yet found anyone who has removed them and not had to do this - at least on one side. It's certainly what I did and always suggest to those that ask.

Got mine out with a Dremel

Grind the outer cage very thin (don't go through because you will damager the bore) and with the help of a piece of hardwood dowel, crack what's remaining. Sounds difficult but it was a piece of piss

So there's no realistic means of removing the bearings unscathed, then? That's a shame - I was planning to revive my spare swingarm this winter (note - it's a Falco one, rather than an alien RSV jobbie...)

Not quite. I used a large tap and a slide hammer. Getting them back in is a lot easier.. (obviously new ones)

A blind bearing puller is the tool you need to get them out undamaged. I used tin snips and a lot of brute force and even more ignorance, but it worked pretty OK

I used an 1/2 inch long extension bar and a plastic hammer Put through the centre of bearing one side and hit with said hammer on the inner other side, simples. Took my time though, watch out for the spacer and position everytime to minimise the damage on the spacer....

I tried that .... and gave up as I couldn't get the thing to stay on the bearing well enough to knock it out.

I decided to dig up this old thread, as I've had cause to remove the bearings from my standard Falco swingarm, as I'm intending to get it powder coated black to match the frame.

Piece of piss - took about 20 minutes, tops. And no Dremels were involved, and all bearings can and will be re-used. Crucially, no swearing was involved either. Dunno what all the fuss is about, honestly...

Indeed - other than when located in the general area of Sheffield, their bearings seem to drop out easily.
