Power commander 1 and power commander 3 differences

I found out at the weekend that the power commander I've been offered is a power commander 1 so not USB. This isn't too much of a problem as the guy who has it has an old laptop that suits it.
However I wanted to check whether the maps would be compatible between the two units or did they change them internally?
Anyone know?

Dynojet used to have a good description of all of the types of Power Commander on their website.
Unfortunately it no longer seems to be there.
Fortunately the Internet Archive has grabbed it for posterity - albeit without pics.

TBH I've never heard of anyone running a PC1 on a Falco

you probably don't need an old laptop just a converter if it is serial to USB

The older power commander doesn't allow for as fine adjustment as the newer one can apply changes ever 250rpm (or is it 500) vs every 500 rpm (or 1000, I can't remember), or something to that effect.

I decided to go and physically have a look at this power commander that was causing all the trouble last night, it turns out it is a power commander 3, just one of the original ones. I'm not sure where he got the idea it was a PC1.
So problem solved, Once I've sorted some cans out I'll be sticking that on there along with a K&N.
