Venturi effect ??????

Does this exist ? It came up in a pub bine club the other day and to be honest it's not something I am familiar with or really understand but was wondering if it exists and if so how if at all it would relate to our bikes?

My understanding and yes I was sober :) is that it is some physics thing to do with transfer of greater volumes as opposed to transfer of lesser volume more quickly? Like air and fuel under pressure for example ?

Of course it does .... though your description's wrong.

Here's some info for you:

we use this a lot on offshore installations.
when a gas well had depleted we put in smaller tubing string which in turn encourages the venturi effect.(and yes .. it does work)

Carburettors rely on it

Wouldn't that make buggering about with the snorkels sort of pointless?

Venturi principal... any moving body creates a draught of air,
makes tons of every day shit work, simples when you think about it

So yes a smaller snorkel would probably be better performance wise

Looks that way, later bike = whooshier air.
Glad I didn't go to the trouble of piddling about with mine now.

right so I have read the wiki article as best as I can understand it and as I understand the comments herein the stuff that always gets said about the black and red having bigger snorkels and therefore being faster would appear to not be correct... (I understood Squids summary better tan wiki) so as I have the potentially faster smaller snorkels is there an optimium size to which they should be shrunk or should I just be glad that I have the slimmer faster ones :smt003

It's not in the least bit relevant to the snorkels - just as there is no evidence that the the snorkel design of the earlier bikes is better than the later bikes.

Rene used to play with the trumpets too with an effect on power delivery.. better maybe not, but trumpet height will alter things

or are you on about your inlets from the front of the bike? in which case RiOT ran witty's bike with big fk off bits of rubber inlet hose probably 60mm diameter, which also worked to improve things

That, is a classic.. :smt005 :smt005
