at last it's back on the road, having been laid up for 8 months with a u/s datatool alarm - eventually found someone to come out and reconnect everything and started first time........rode down to stick the Sportsmarts on and after the bike wouldn't start or bump - turned out to be the battery totally jiggered - luckily had one lying around that wouldn't fit the TDM (now sold) which will do until I can get a TTZ14S-BS which I hope will be worth it.

Now just have to spend loads of time getting the suspension right - I think I've made it as horrible as it can be......

Anyway, the bike has a Scottoiler, which is my first, so I filled it up with engine oil, blew down the tube to prime it (vacuum type) all seemed well, but the little tank emptied in 10 miles, only some of it on the chain, mainly seemed to drip down the sidestand...... ;) Any ideas anyone?

Get the bike on a paddock stand and start the engine - put the bike in gear and let it run

On the top of the scottoiler is the adjuster - turn it all the way down then move it up to between 1 and 2

Now watch the drip rate - one drop every few seconds is fine

Do not forget that the nib delivers the oil to the sprocket face.....

While its running check the line for any leaks and weeps

I get plenty of oil for the chain with the feed at the minimum. Full bottle does 500 miles or more.

Engine oil is too thin for a Scottoiler, you need gearbox oil, or Scottoil's own.

Drip rate should be no more than 2 per minute, and that's for wet conditions, half that for dry conditions.

Where should it feed onto? If it's running down the stand it sounds like it's either feeding onto the front sprocket (not very well) or you have a leak somewhere.
