But not the "best" ?

You get the both of best worlds.

Something else I've heard about the CB1000R, (don't know if it's true) because the motor is a magnesium alloy unit, Honda are having a load of them bought back with corrosion problems. Have a wander over to their forum and see if it's true.

Been looking at the FZ1s prices, they're very expensive no? more than the CB1000R. Guess it may be worth if for the added practicality though. I'll check out the potential corrosion problem, thanks for that Nooj.

If I commute on train and tube it's going to cost me £300+ a month so getting a new bike on one of these 0% finance deals is a no brainer. Despite the depreciation I will still have an asset and some enjoyment getting to work and back for the same money once running costs are take in to account.

Looking forward to next weekend and 3 test rides!

Wish I was a bike journo so I could do long term test rides, lucky bugge*s

Got my Falco from KJM. Make sure they give you a bike with a UK headlight! :smt003

They seem like a good bunch, very helpful, I'd definitely buy a bike form them again.

TwinNut

Just spoken to KJM, the 6999 price is for imports and not part of the 0% deal. He is quoting £7500 for a UK on the 0% but has said he is open to offers if I find a better deal. Thanks for the recommendation, they seem pretty amenable. I'll get a test ride sorted locally and do some haggling and then go back to them.

I'll see how the test ride goes but the Yam certainly seems to fit well between the 'boring' CBF and the Cb1000r.

Ever had any reliability issues with the FZS? What are the servicing costs like?

Yam do seem to be the best of the bunch regarding waranty work as well, something to bare in mind. Don't forget loads of credit cards are offering some very good intorductory rates, this economic slump will take a few years to clear properly, that's a lot of 0% cards if you change each year, may work out better than the dealers' credit offers.

TwinNut/Nooj

Thanks again for your advice.

I'm not making a light decision due to the 0%. I have ridden a few bikes over the years and am really making a very considered decision, especially as I've been out of the saddle for 18 months and have thought about bikes constantly since. 0% or not I can't afford to chuck 7/8k down the drain on a whim. The Falco choice was made about 3 years a go (but I bought a knackered VFR instead!!) and I just came back to it with my budget at the time a couple of weeks back. I'm just lucky that the 2 bikes that look like they fit my needs at the moment happen to be on 0%.

Ideally I would have a short commute and would plump for a Ducati 749R or even better have stacks of cash, a garage and have a myriad of bikes for each riding scenario. The CBF (I'm not an accountant by the way TwinNut :smt002 ) really fits the bill for the use I mainly need it for. I know it looks dull but is a Fireblade engine really going to be boring with a load of welly? The Fazer could be right for me but I prefer low end and mid range grunt so reckon the CBF may be the one. I've also managed to get a couple of dealers down to £7k for the GT version (ABS, full honda luggage and lower fairing), the cheapest for a FZS is £7500, not that £500 will make my mind up though. A GXR1000 would also be in contention but my daily commute is too far for that riding style through heavy traffic, would be great on the w/end though (plus I really need to keep my licence)

I've found a dealer that has both and am going to test ride back to back which is the ideal situation. Who knows I may hate both, but I doubt it.

Had another result yesterday, my neighbour is going to rent me his alarmed garage.

Can't wait until Saturday, I couldn't sleep last night due to the excitement, so much so that I caught a flytipper redhanded at 1am outside my house but that's another story...

I will update you on Saturday to let you know how I get on, I do suspect that I may be changing my username to Boring Accountant though :smt015

Yes, I know it’s detuned but according to bike journos and MCN it is far from dull to ride, have you ridden one? It would be good to hear an opinion of someone who has ridden a CBF and a Fazer.

Ok, I might not be right on the low end grunt. I said ‘reckon’ and ‘may’. I’ve heard the Fazer is eager and revvy and the CBF is smooth, I prefer the latter. Didn’t you say you don’t ride bikes a lot (I’m not suggesting you’re not experienced)? Have you had to do a 60 mile daily commute? On that basis I think on evidence I’ve seen so far the CBF will be more suited. But Saturdays tests will reveal to me what I want.

To be honest I think it was a mistake asking people on these forums and other riders I know. I’m hearing a lot of conflicting opinions and it’s getting a bit confusing. Obviously Honda riders are saying get the CBF and Yams are saying the Fazer. Journos rate both bikes.

So, Saturday comes and hopefully I will have made a choice or at least dismissed the two and end up with a highly unsuitable Ducati!!
