Wrong, just wrong...[/quote]

It's going to be a long, cold, wet winter otherwise! Haha :P

I'm impressed by your resilience. I found that long journeys in hostile conditions (close to or sub-zero temps, heavy rain etc.) were to be endured rather than enjoyed. I did it because it saved me big chunks of time, not for fun. These days I ride exclusively for enjoyment.

I've got to the age of 27 without having a car, which is probably more than most. Now that I have a long distance girlfriend, it's probably best I get one for the commute. There is nothing fun about 80 miles on the motorway/a roads, especially during winter.

I'd have to agree. No point in becoming a martyr to an ideal. Your gf will want to see you arrive safe and unstressed, something not always possible on a bike in winter.

You can also run straight into her waiting arms, without having to disrobe layer by layer and then defrost...

Fair enough :) We do have a car for carrying big things but generally need to jump start it when we need it as it just sits in the car park for most of the time!

Whatever happens though, you're not allowed to look longingly at the bikes going past you when you're in that traffic jam ;)
Remember, when you are dead, you do not know you are dead. It is only painful for others.
The same applies when you are stupid.
