Ok, time for an update.

Tyres went on, rode home about 8 miles on icy roads.

Took bike out for a ride to scrub them in, absolutely belted down for the whole trip so rode full-on Jenny Upright!

Next trips were back on the commute in minus 4-8c temps. Definitely took the nobbly bits off the centre line but not much else.

Bit more commuting and I think they're now mostly scrubbed in! Tonight's ride was in torrential rain and not a single wibble so I reckon I can relax now. :smt001

Tyre review? Had a few moments at first before I realised that the weird, falling sensation when going round a bend was because they had

a) curved bits instead of flat bits
b) grip!

They are infinitely grippier when on uneven surfaces, like tramline repairs, drain covers, knackered road surfaces etc and grip is maintained strongly when braking, even along wet white lines. :smt004

Overall confidence is much higher and will increase now that I've got rid of most of the nobbles (these were seriously hairy tyres when put on!
:smt012 ).

Only query is whether they have a bit of extra vibration when riding around 80-85 but that might have been road surface or I just need to amend the pressures. No issue above (on a track of course) or below that speed...

Thanks for the update Katie. Keep them coming - I'm in the market for a new set but after looking into it a bit more, I cannot for the life of me decide between the t30 evo, road smart 3's, or the m7rr's :smt017

I have to admit I give my tyres (especially the front) the full Brazilian when I get them from the couriers... I really don't like the squirmy feel they give until they're scrubbed off.

Glad to see you're getting on so well with the T30s, please keep us updated on your experience with them.

When I recently had the oil cooler off I made the mistake of not fastening the RH clip properly (don't say anything!) and ended up giving the front wheel and a fair portion of the garage floor a nice sticky golden shower...

I used a cloth wetted with brake cleaner to get the oil off the tyre and was surprised at how it cleaned up the rubber - gave it that nice tacky feel that you get after a fast ride on a hot day.

I'd be more worried about that bit if I was you :smt005

What he didn't mention was that the antifreeze is green... :smt117

I have read a fair bit about brake cleaner causing rapid deteriation of seals, may be worth keeping a watch on the front hoop

Forgot to add that I checked the pressures yesterday for the first time since changing them (I know, my bad) and, after a week and a half (about 700 miles) of riding, they were perfect.

God only knows what pressure they had started off at... :smt009

To be fair, i check mine every week or so, very rarely do they need more air. Maybe every few months...

Same here on my BB I lose about 1-2 lbs a week as its on its sidestand which apparently causes the tyre to flex a little (its a heavy bike if you drop it LOL) Should really put it on its abba stand.
I hate it when people ask if you have a bathroom, I want to say "No we pee in the garden"

Skoda Octavia's, they're good in the rain.
So bloody glad I have the choice. I hate riding in adverse conditions, it wears everything to do with bike and rider, mentally and physically.
Call me a fair weather biker and I will agree with you. 20 years of winter riding is more than enough for me.
I feel for you guys that have to do it...

Couldn't agree more. So glad I don't need to ride in shit conditions any more.

Well, I am most dreadfully embarrassed.

I actually took the car to work yesterday :smt086

Left work about 3pm and have got to say, as I came round the M25 in the torrential rain I thought 'good choice'. As I went up the M40 and the downpour turned straight into a blizzard, I was really glad I left the bike at home!
My sympathies went out to the highway planners - no way they could get that decision right!

Back on the bike today but that was pretty uneventful, albeit a bit chilly :smt002

Liking the T30s now. They have a lot of grip where I wouldn't necessarily expect it and they are very confidence inspiring when applying the anchors a wee bit hard (80 to 15mph in 3 seconds, going round a bend on the unlit bit of the M40 - big thanks owed to my fellow road users' twatty driving skills)

I would not be embarrassed to admit that Katie, I call it sensible !
I can understand that using the bike makes for a quicker commute but you did use that totally relevant phrase 'twatty driving skills'.
I'm lucky in that my 'to work' run is about 5 miles on the main Bath/Bristol road but I see all too often the mayhem caused by stupid impatient deaf dumb and blind car and lorry drivers, a serious smash every few weeks on what is really a good undemanding stretch of tarmac :smt009
