Now there's a thought - do them in pink ..... you could sell one to Pete to go with his hat ....

Looking good Rich - will be interesting to see when they come out of the bags :smt004

Are the Aprillia logos and that squigly bit on top that looks like an old sticker a function of the mould? Can they be removed from the finished product?

That aside, can't wait for mine :)
Insert humourous comment here

Yes as they were on the brand new tank and lacquered over so to remove them would have been a full respray on the brand new tank and as the paint was so well adhered too the plastic the mould maker decided it would be really expensive to do the whole thing again and hide it.. So there are two options. One is get identical stickers made up and put them on the tank or lacquer over it and bury it under lacquer. So this first one will be the test to see if it hides it.. They are not very deep in the mould so may just disappear..

The first tank is being bonded up right now so hopefully Andy will have it to try over the weekend... It will still need the fuel pump area trimming and smoothing off but it will test the fit of the tank on the bike...

The fuel cap area has been rough trimmed.

The alloy sleeve for the bushes and pivot point have been bonded in too...

Buried in resin to add strength and ensure it will never ever leak..
Image

Masked up ready for the adhesive and the sealer..
Image
£650.00 worth of resin to seal and make the adhesive with too... It has just hit home how close this is to actually being a usable fuel tank now...
Image

Sealer curing to a nice tack before it is bonded up...
Image

It is bonded now and I will get some photos as soon as I can... I dont want to show the bonding process or what chemicals are used to make the adhesive.. So the next photo will be of a 95% finished fuel tank....

Unless I'm mistaken, it's still got to be lacquered ..... piling on the pounds .....
