yep...plugs out!

no i haven't tried the full throttle start.....yet.

i'd rather check the obvious first, so i'll whip my plugs out first and see what happens

My money is on it not starting - they tend not to start very well when the plugs are out :smt002

nice one D

i'm hoping to see a big fat juicy spark, but the likelihood is it will be more of a damp squib.

sucess she starts, after much head scratching, so i put fresh fuel in and bingo. :smt003

return to the house today and the smell of fuel vapour was overpowering, it seems that i have developed a fuel leak around the fuel pump, so tank off clean seal replace, no sucess still leaking :smt009

I going to replace said seal but also notice that the pump doesnt fit flush to the base of the tank, is this normal?

Found the seal on line, so spoke to my nearest stealer they do aprilia and kwak which is handy, and guess what... no bolts for the zrx rear footrest! or fuel pump seal for the aprilia, but i could get a bloody paddock jacket or carbon look tank protector....grinds my gears, whatever happened to useful dealers.

Do a search on here - Aladinsaneuk had the same problem .... thought to be another of the results of ethanol distorting our tanks.
I think he made a new face to seal against with epoxy.
If you find the thread it will explain what he did.

(others probably have done this too but I know for sure that Pete - Aladinsaneuk - did)

Thanks D, oh is it down to the ethanol, bugger.

a new seal is unlikely to cure it then... i'll have a search and see what crops up, i was thinking of an epdm gasket to fill the gaps so to speak.

Found something by Jay as he appears to have had the same issue, so copied it to my desk top.
:smt003

Something to keep me out of trouble next week then

Jays write up is a good one

My fix was similar - cleaning the groove for the rubber seal is key btw

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

it also comes with pics, :smt003

yeah i cleaned the groove then a dab of grease on each corner to stop it falling out, thought it had cured it but alas no joy.

Grease is not petrol proof

Use the red hermtite

I was reading on the futura page of AF1 with someone who had a distorted tank to the extent that even with red hylomar the pump base would not seal.
The solution was to use a smooth flat file across the flats of the tank.
The base needs to be level when refitting the pump base. Use a flat surface like a cheap engineers rule to check which bit needs filing.
Patience is the key or send the tank to me Rob?
Tolerance will be our undoing.

Thanks for the offer Jay, i'm hoping after re-sealing last night it has cured it.

Got the base relatively flat so i'm now hoping its sealed...though i have go mum on vapour alert in the house should it start to leak again :smt003

The garage is directly under her bedroom.

The smell of vapour on sat am when i walked in was unbelievable.

I'll keep you all posted as to the sucess of the repair :smt003

well it appears the tank has wet itself again, down by the pump.
will need to get the base even flatter now. tempted to find an engineering shop with a milling machine to take a few thou off.
