Yes, I'm thinking of selling the Falco. I have 2 young boys and I just don't want them to fall in love with bikes. I can't bear the thought of them doing what I used to do at 16 :smt009 Someone talk some sense into me!!

You're probably too late already. The seed will have been sown long ago.

Its better to nuture it from an early age and develop it before they can make like Valentino down the queen's highway.

My Dad had the right idea. When I was 13, bought me a Honda CD200 Benly and only let me loose round the garden. I had the power, but had to learn to control it and a heavy bike in a small garden and driveway. When I eventually got to my chance to ride on the road legally, it was a bit of a let down and I didnt ride like a twat.

Even so, an interest in bikes and an understanding of what its like to ride a bike is not a bad thing even if they never ride. Cage drivers benefit from knowing about our side of the fence... it makes it safer for all concerned!

The one Reggie is selling (as mango says) is the Ohlins aftermarket shock for the mille. I expect Ohlins did these for the various model years - in which case, the linkages will depend on the year it was for.

The early ones having the same linkages as the Falco, then up to 2003 the different Mille linkages. Later than that is the RSVR1000 type which are different again. We've always believed them to be not compatible (but I have seen it suggested that may not be entirely true - though I'd not take the risK)

My oldist lad is 5 years old. I take him to a track at Armthorpe near doncaster which is an organised event.
He has an LT50 quad and a PW50 which i will be getting ready for him. Better to make sure they have all the safety gear than do what i did.
I learned to ride a single DT400 when i was 15 years old.
I had rode honda 90s, mobilette with pedals on and a fizzy with gears.
But trust me the DT400 was taught me bike control. I did this with no helmet or gloves etc and i have been lucky.
I tend to find that if kids are interested, which my 5 year old has always been, its better to teach them the right way.
I do understand what you mean about being 16 and doing what we did though :smt002

Yeah - I remember being 16. They'd introduced the "new" moped laws. My Dad bought a Honda C50 for him and me .... only for him then to discover that a moped not only had to be less than 50 cc but had also to be capable of being pedalled.
So being 16 still meant cycling everywhere and riding round my gran's back garden on the C50 (she lived next door).
At 17 I could at last take the 50cc monster-beast out on the road. A few months later, test passed, I was able to upgrade to the hyper-bike CB175.

Now I'm a dad, the kids riding does worry me (2 of the 3 ride). I don't know what I'd do if any of them were badly hurt but how can I deny them the pleasure I had myself and how can I encourage others to the joys of motorcycling but not my own kids?

Yep, I understand where you are coming from Reggie... bot don't think your kids won't notice when you look wistfully at a bike ..... or they see the photos of dad with his bikes. The undercurrent will always be there ;)

No ride height adjustment.
Really has no advantages compared to the Mille one.

This is the Aftermarket Ohlins for the Mille:

Yes, it looks exactly like the aftermarket Ohlins for the Mille. I have a picture, but Photobucket won't work this morning for some reason. Thanks D-Rider.

Can anybody advise on what the Ohlins reference number is for the aftermarket Mille shock (remote reservoir)?

Remote Reservoir or Remote Preload Adjuster?

EDIT:
Just been to the Ohlins website .... I get the feeling they no longer do shocks for the Falco or Gen1 Mille/Tuono.
Stuff for the Gen2 bikes, V4s and Dorso are listed.

remote preload adjuster. They've stopped making shocks for the Falco from what I can gather.

It looks like the options are get a used Ohlins or a new Maxton or Nitron.

Hi Irich, the Ohlins type code for the Super-Bling shock shown above is 46PRCLS. The Mille-specific fitment is an AP8410. I have the Ohlins shock specification card if you need any further details. It even gives details of the OE shim stack, but I doubt you'd want that.

They are an excellent shock but, as you say, I suspect Ohlins don't supply new any more. They would also be very expensive new. The equivalent for a 2004-2009 RSV or Tuono is an eye-watering £856, according to the Harris Performance price list, and they only list shocks for the 2004-2009 RSV and Tuono and RSV4.

Second-hand only, I'm afraid.

Other options are Wilbers (German) or Hyperpro (Dutch). I know John at Revs Racing is a Wilbers agent.

I've been informed the shock is worth around £200, which means it's not worth replacing it for a standard shock. I must admit I don't believe it's worth £200 :smt012

Nah - unless it's in poor condition, that's significantly undervalued for an Ohlins with remote preload adjuster.
Catch it on ebay on the right day and it'll go for a fair bit over £300.
I'd say about £300 as a guide price - maybe £250 if things aren't doing well at the time you sell.

Last one on evilbay made 260

The one I recently acquired was less than that - but is highly likely to need a bit of work
