Thanks for the link - no idea how I missed that thread
Sounds a good idea if the bush is worn - though I think I'll just try to keep mine well greased to reduce the likelihood of wear in the first place.

may i suggest slackening all pinch bolts off and trying things loosely?
(Perhaps even, if you have one lying around, putting a gear leaver on direct to make sure that it is the linkage that is a problem, not a gear box problem... eliminate all other causes!)
also, if you have a paddock or abba stand, try it with the rear wheel off the ground and the engine running....
Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

OK so my thoughts.
It will only select first and second .... one down and one up.
This suggests that when you release it having changed up, the mechanism is not freely moving back to be fully in its rest position and capable of clicking back up again.
A little downward pressure with your toe (not enough to click it down a gear but to return it to the "rest" position may be enough to let you click up to the next gear.
The thing that's changed is the bearing and having read the linked thread, that should press in OK. The other significant part of the process is turning down the pivot on the footrest - if you haven't gone quite far enough the new bearing could be binding a little on that pivot and stopping it moving freely back to the rest position.
Without actually looking at it, that's my first guess for investigation.

Nah, reckon it's something blindingly obvious being overlooked as in my previous utterence. Try it with the motor running (on a paddock stand obviously).

Yup. The kwack doesnt change gear apart from one up one down unless the rear wheel is spun. I'd go for summat as simple as that. The mod's done correctly (assumation), Things have been stripped before and the rod's been on and off before so you kinda 'know' when it's fitted right (although it being longer/shorter is a possibility)
Be good to find the answer as it'll be more for the knowledgebase

...... I'm just going on the facts that the wheel has been turned, the end of the linkage on the spline wasn't undone (nothing's moved there) and therefore the only end that has been fiddled with is the pivot of the gear lever ......... AND the symptoms are the same as when the (unmodified) brake lever pivot has got all crudded up and needs cleaning and greasing .... and is binding .... I had this earlier in the year ....
Yep ..... the blindingly obvious ......
