Do Falcos have a sixth gear????? If so I haven't found it in 20,000 miles of ownership. Even on the motorway (which I try to avoid) 5th is much more responsive ans thats with a 15 tooth front sprocket.

On twisty roads 3rd is spot on and no need to use the brakes......
Have you done one of those particularly rare mods - fitting an R6 motor in there?

I ride the same, some times I will need 4th but most of the time I have the bike revving high in 3rd.One it sounds awesome and secondly when you shut off there are no need for brakes.

Nope, but engine smooths and it give a bit of a kick from 6k revs.

Just cane it where ever you can ......with out the nice men in the silly hats watching obviously :smt003 .............i ring it's neck day in day out and always have a good blast , gone back to 16t front as well as the difference on the road is sooooooooooo small it's not worth it .............just keep it in a gear for a bit longer but higher up the rev range for speed and it will stay with any 15 t one easy ....... Why do all these mods when all you do is plod along you just might as well leave it standard....

All this talk of changing at 6 - 7 .......Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh .....the fun begins at 8 plus .........Rev light set at 11 and she pops when she's there .... :smt005

It's a great bike and that's why we ride it.................. if you want to go slow get a Harley ...........

Don't mean to up set the gods on here but c'mon ......cars go faster ...................mind you saying all this the coppers do have my license at the moment and are placing 3 points on it .........now what was that for .. :smt017

Have to disagree - it depends where you are riding it. If you spend much time in town it makes a lot of difference with low speed driveability / low speed corners .... hanging on to the revs is not going to help when you are trying to go slow but want to keep the engine rotating and not spend your life slipping the clutch.

If you spend all your time on fast A-roads / motorways etc then 16t will be a better choice but it's horses for courses and there is a diference.

No point in hanging on to 11k - you're through the power by then
Also, although you can set the indicator all the way up to 12k, Aprilia also recommend absolute maximum revs
  • 0-625 miles: 6,000 rpm (running in first stage)
625-937 miles: 7,500 rpm (running in second stage)
937 miles onwards: 10,500 rpm (fun time)
Although it would be wrong to say that I've never taken it to where the rev-limiter cuts in, it's better to be kind to your engine and enjoy the torque rather than hit 10,500 (or more) on every change .... especially as there's no more power up there.
.... well that's in my opinion ...

you just need to make sure you wheelie past speed cameras in future so they can't grab your plate :smt016

The 15T front sprocket allows you to use 6th a lot more, before changing the gearing I did not use 6th a helluva lot when out for a play.
As for the comments about all the mods and not using the bike, may as well have a Harley, sorry but that is bollocks.
If you're only running up to 7 or 8k regularly and using 6th you are going pretty damm quick, (must be around 130 ish).
Most of the time the people on here will be going pretty quick and enjoying themselves using the glorious torque of the V60 a bit more than the top end, but as I said, I have often hit the limiter in the past, often when you hang on to a low gear for a quick overtake rather than using the torque.
I have slowed down in recent years, now there are long range speed cameras (That you can't see!) ditto hidden cameras in builders vans,
Q Cars and Q Bikes plus the bloody helicopters, as at my age I don't fancy prison.
One of the problems I have with my ZX9R is that I find myself going at silly speeds again to get the fun I get on the Falco at lower revs.
Sometimes, may be running up to 20mph faster than the Falco on known roads. Fun at the time but does make me think a bit when I get home :smt017

fair points..

its weird - I think the Falco actually makes me feel the speed more than on my other bike - an old Triumph with super soggy suspension.

I think its because its such a different riding experience but the actual MPH I am reaching is around the same - just getting there a lot faster with a much more involved sensation of the road

that said I think I definitley need to look at the suspension side of things on this bike - I'm a heavy guy and I'm sure its not set up right for me

anyone got any links to a some tips on setting up the suspension?

I knew i would get a kicking for writing that but what the heck ..........I do feel , like you lot said :smt038 , for most roads 3rd and 4th gear are more then enough and when on motorways sitting at 6 thou rpm in top is about a ton so spot on there ..............Suppose it's all from running the japs bike years ago where making them sing was all the fun .....

As for in town and built up areas obviously stay safe BUT when open roads are around and things are quiet ............ring it's f**king neck and hang on :smt077 If i'm going out on the bike though it's normally always for a blast and not to go to town ( I USE MY PEDAL POWERED ONE FOR THAT ) and normally always trying to stay with ....or beat .....my mate on his RSVR ........not that we're racng officer ...honest.. :smt083

And as for the Harley thing HowardQ i meant it in a way of saying why change suspension , ride height , ecu and other things if your not going to try them out , if i remember right the question was what rev range we all ride at ..............and like people in the world we're all different ...............Once more no offence to anyone on here ....even Harley riders ........they're just my thoughts on the matter ......

When is the next Aprilia group get together does anyone know ? ..........Would love to come up and put some faces to all this chat ..........it's a long way for me to come so any down south ..ish way would be better .........need my passport crossing the bridge into Devon .... :smt003

No ... please DO offend Harley riders - they deserve it .... and as their "machines" offend the rest of us, then it's entirely fair.
:smt002
.... and on that subject (worth looking at): https://www.ridersite.com/viewtopic.php?t=6545

Not sure when the next meet up will be - we've just had a couple.
There's talk of one or two more in the summer (and anyone can organise one - and some a bit more "in the regions" wouldn't be a bad thing for those that struggle to get to the more central parts)

The one that everyone should put in their diary is the Ridersite Forum weekend in Norfolk ... we've not got a confirmed date yet but we're down to a choice of two (a little later than usual).https://www.ridersite.com/viewtopic.ph ... 8&start=16

Thoughts on that before I start the relevant thread?

It may sound lateish in the year, but it's still BoB week, with blue skies, vapour trails and fluffy white clouds.

OK - so SHE is good ..... but that doesn't stop Harleys from being crap now, does it?

I guess they will also appeal to girls and others of shorter stature (not that I'm suggesting all girls are short - just the statistical average .... and Mrs Paddy .....)

All of them......right up to the limiter sometimes.
But when i am riding in a group or with someone on the back, i tend to be a lot more reserved.
