P.S. Send us some more pics of Eileen Doonan, next time you're up there.
Wish I had easier access to those fabulous Highland roads.
Cheers bro :smt008

Planning on another Skye run or two this year and some further North on the mainland.

Anyone comin up this way and need a mid stage stop over before heading further North gimme a shout. I have bed and garage space and I'm told the hospitality ain't too shabby.

Thanks for the offer.
At the moment it is a bit unlikely as me and the missus have got to the age when we use up every holiday we can to go somewhere warm and she does not do "bikes". I am getting closer to finally retiring and that may come sooner for other reasons in the current climate.
If it does and the wife is still working my plan is to bugger off up to Scotland a few times for a few days or more at a time, if I do, I'll let you know.
Still have very fond memories of the last time I toured by car many years ago.
Went up through Loch Lomond to Oban, 2 days on Mull, back to Oban, Ballachulish, Loch Ailort, Mallaig, Fort William, Ben Nevis, Kyle, 3 days on Skye, (by ferry in those days), covering the whole island, Kyle, Torridon, Loch Maree, Inverewe, Gairloch, Ullapool, Inverpolly, Dornoch Firth, Inverness, Loch Ness, Fort William and back down to Oban and home to Sheffield. Did it in three weeks covering more than 2,600 miles with (whisper) a small touring caravan on the back of the car!
Only problem we had was going in early September and we got eaten alive by the "wee midgies"!
Feckin great black clouds of them all around us.
Will never ever forget the run and the scenery and always wanted to do the same roads in some way on a bike.

And.... I'm back! Well not really on a Falco, but back to the forum at least. Hi to those that remember me...

So I sold my Falco and all her bits over 2 years ago now and my story since then is:

I bought a Tiger 1050 and just didn't gel with it, no worse, HATED it! There were rare moments that it seemed to make sense and perhaps one of those moments was on the test ride but in the 7000 miles I owned it for I probably enjoyed 500 of them. Suspension, buffeting, oil-usage, comfort etc - I could not agree with it. So in December 2011 I moved it on and replaced it with a 2008 Yamaha FZ1 for 2/3rds of the price I sold the Tiger for. The next day my father passed away and my world turned to crap overnight meaning the FZ1 didn't leave the garage until the middle of May.

Anyway - on the biking front I am now back in my happy place. I love the FZ1 despite some of the short comings (which the other 1/3rd of the bike fund above is resolving for me). Now unlike the Falco her looks may not turn heads, and her all-too-common in-line 4 soundtrack may not demand attention, but her and I gel..... and I am excited about every ride again. Sporty yet comfortable, powerful yet forgiving, understated yet special in so many ways... And of course I am modding her into uniqueness.

I will post up a pic or two later on.

Hi Dom

I was only thinking of you the other day (as I spotted your Ohlins top yoke in my garage :smt053 ) and was wondering how you were.
Really good to hear from you again. Very sorry to hear about your Dad.

Glad you've found a bike that suits - hopefully we'll see you around during the year.
Forum weekend (the Not-A-Wake) is the first weekend of September - details on the forum.

Thanks Andy. I will check out the forum weekend and check with She Who Controls The Calendar, but off the top of my head it may actually work out.

Hi Syltiz,

You've got my condolences - it's always difficult when a close family member passes away.

V
It's the V-twin thing. There's just something about it that inline-4s don't have at all, and V-4s don't have enough of.

Do you mean almost on Clay Corner, or those houses near the fire brigade station?
