That was easy .... the nut and bolt that comes with the Gixer stand is the same thread as the Falcos (if memory serves correct). That nut can be welded to the Gixer stand leaving the Falco one to be used as a locknut.mangocrazy wrote: That was the sequence of jobs that gave all my engineering firms the heeby-jeebies. I imagine finding an M10 x 1.25 nut and then getting it correctly centred would be 'interesting'... Saves cannibalising the original Falco stand, though.
Not sure how easy it was to align - a mate did it for me.
The alternative that has been done is to fill the hole with weld, drill it out and tap it.
So why would you want to do this - the Gixer one is perfect apart from needing to modify the mounting.mangocrazy wrote:
As a matter of interest would it be possible to heat up a cast stand like the GSXR one to red-hot with a welding torch and bend the leg a touch? And would that affect the strength of the piece?

With respect, I've spent quite a few hours trawling through the forums trying to get chapter and verse on this. I've had a go and the results haven't been quite what I wanted. I'm now trying to make sure that if/when I try a second time that I've got all bases covered.Aladinsaneuk wrote:perhaps tyaking time to look at the posts may help? as in look at what others have done - your engineers should find it easy

The engineering firms I approached were very sniffy about this approach, saying that weld is brittle and it's not advisable to drill & tap it. I'm only passing on what they say, y'unnerstand...D-Rider wrote:The alternative that has been done is to fill the hole with weld, drill it out and tap it.

As I mentioned in an earlier post; When I offered it up to the bike it looked great except that the stand foot fouls one of the exhaust springs when retracted. I was thinking that I could get the stand bent out a couple of degrees to avoid fouling the exhaust spring. So, does anybody know whether heating cast iron up to red heat will weaken it in any way?D-Rider wrote:So why would you want to do this - the Gixer one is perfect apart from needing to modify the mounting.

If I get a chance this week, I'll take a picture of my stand and post it up on here.
It is a huge mess of a thing, but it works perfectly and doesn't hinder ground clearance. I remember when I was looking at the bike in the dealership (I had no idea about the stand issues) I was thinking that it was a mess, and that it must have been some sort of crash repair or something. But the bike was so cheap I dind't care. Worked out very well though.

I believe most of this info is in the archived threads... did you search those?mangocrazy wrote:With respect, I've spent quite a few hours trawling through the forums trying to get chapter and verse on this. Here is that pic I promised. Sorry for the lousy quality, I snapped it really quick before going to work (the cigs on the ground are not mine, they were just lying in the street there).
As you can see, they stuck a huge piece on there, but like I said, it works very well. It folds up nicely and I've never had clearance issues with it (unlike the exhause).
Since I bought it used like that, I really have no idea what it is. Actually, can anyone tell me if it is a Falco leg with an attachment, or a leg off another bike?

....modified with scaffold-pole re-inforcement, by the look of it.Aladinsaneuk wrote:falco leg
Not sure why anyone would do that, unless it was a bodge repair for some reason - on the standard stand, the foot bar is quite accessible, not sure what this would add apart from being longer (by the look of it) and sturdier (which I don't think it needs)
