Thought I'd update this instead of a new thread. My vibes were due to the 'tune' of the bike. Have since got a Gabro chip & spent the winter messing with my trip pot dials.
Obviously doing this blind without a means of measuring my emissions & simply going with how smooth or not it feels whilst erring on the side of rich. I am considering doing this properly with a PC3 & dyno time. What do the sages think? Thanks.

Dunno about Sages but we have a fair few other herbs here.goonerfromlag wrote:Thought I'd update this instead of a new thread. My vibes were due to the 'tune' of the bike. Have since got a Gabro chip & spent the winter messing with my trip pot dials.

This Thyme I'd say the following:
Was the chip from Gabro for your bike with it's own config or did you get a second hand one from another bike that may have had a different config?
Regarding throttle balance, the best way to set this up is with a CO meter and the trim pots ... but that'll probably mean taking it somewhere to be done as few have a suitable CO meter.
You can go a long way with the ECU trim pots set at 12 O clock and balancing the TBs with a set of Vacuum Gauges or a Carbtune - you might not have optimal mixture but can get good balance. The Workshop Manual tells you how to do this.
I used to have a PC3 that I always intended getting a custom map for .... but never did as I contacted Gabro and bought a chip from him. It really got rid of the need for the PC3 ... though if I do make further changes to the bike I may fit it again to adjust for them - alongside the Gabro chip with its better ignition map.
Regarding responses from other herbs on here, maybe Pete will be along so that we can discover the answer to "What would a Dill do?"

Just to bring the original saga up to date - I had got the balance shaft mis-aligned, and by quite a distance. I'd say it was about 5-6 teeth out, as the reference mark on the exhaust camwheel was clearly visible, while the corresponding mark on the balance shaft gear was hidden by the keyed washer with the weird shape (if that makes any sense).
Instead of undoing the nut holding the balance shaft gear in place and doing the job properly, I'd tried to line it up by a bunch of marker pen dots and failed miserably. You can't really get the cam sprocket positions wrong as the crankshaft is locked and the IN and EX marks on the cam sprockets have to line up.
But it is perfectly possible to get the balance shaft out of position, as I've proved. Howebver if you ensure the two reference punch marks line up (as I have now done) you're good to go. Still plenty of other work to do before I can road test it, but I'm confident that particular problem is fixed.
