I've got swirl marks too - I figure it's down to ethanol in the petrol swelling the plastic but not the paint. It's a mess tbh - but being silver, mine isn't visible from a distance, in bright sunlight, with sunglasses on.

One day I'll have a play with transport grade vinyl and have a go at wrapping - I fancy matt silver. No harm done if it doesn't work out as it peels off before full adhesion. For £50 or so it should make for a fun day and cheaper than a night out on the lash. Probably couldn't do the tank in one piece though, let alone the tail and fairing but there's plenty of places to hide the cut lines.

What could possibly go wrong?

Mines more like somebody has been cleaning it with an abrasive cloth. Lots of very fine scratches in the lacquer. I've thought about wrapping it if I can't polish them out but am unsure whether it'll look good on a bike. Also thought about one of those leather tank covers. I'm hoping it'll polish out though.

Wrappings not that hard. I've had a go before. I spruced up a few tired interior parts in the wife's mx5. A couple of hours and a bit of patience. Gave them a fresh new look.

I'm sure we're looking at the same thing - tanks on eBay often look the same.

Just looking at side stands so I can get that issue sorted as soon as. Does anybody know if a 2010 CBR1000RR side stand will fit as a direct replacement? I really don't won't to have to get anything welded or fabricated. I want to buy something that I can swap straight over.

TIA

correct 2005-2007

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Hi and welcome you should really get yourself to the bar and get a round in before you've spent it all modding your falco.
Shame you've just missed out on the marches meet weekend it was a great event and right on your doorstep. :smt023
I don't care if you lick windows,
Take the special bus
Or occasionally pee on yourself.
You hang in there sunshine, you're special!

Cheers lads at least now I know which one to get.

The spending had already begun! New screen ordered and a new oxford maximiser 3800 as my old battery charger is, well, old and will probably struggle.

Now I'm on the look out for a rear seat cowl and side stand.

Well I got her home :smt003 Holy shit that was fun. 130 miles down there in the car, over 200 on the way back :smt003 I just kept going and going found some really nice twisties down by Ross-on-Wye. The bike is fantastic. I travelled 120 miless between stops. Normally on the cbr I'm lucky if I manage 60 before the arse and wrists are aching and it's time for a quick ciggy stop.
She felt brilliant and was very confidence inspiring. I felt like the bike really suited me and responded really well to my input. I remember thinking through a particular set of bends on the A49 that this was the bike for me and I had made the right choice.

I can't wait to get out on it and put some more miles on her and smiles on me.

I didn't get any pics, I was having far too much fun to stop. I only got one when I got home as I was putting her away. I only had time to take 1 as it pissed down about 5 mins after I got home.
Will get some proper photos tomorrow if the weather plays ball.

:smt003 :smt003 :smt003

nice, a proper colour! you may want to change those tyres. are they bt021? if so they tend to move alot when getting a wriggle on. definitely limits the ride of the bike IMHO

Cheers :smt023

They are and the rear is brand new. The previous owner had done around 40 miles on it. They felt ok to me on the way home. They wouldn't be my choice but I'm not sure I can bring myself to change a new tyre for the sake of having the brand / model I prefer.

That isn't a standard sidestand. Looks like a VTR one to me. The clutch jet is relatively easy but......
You have to make sure you have a screw driver that fits snuggly into the jet itself making sure you get as much surface contact between the jet a screw driver as possible.
The jets are made of brass and can be damaged to the extent that you can't remove it.
Tolerance will be our undoing.

Good eyes. I thought it was a standard stand as the bike still isn't that stable on it. The originals must be horrible?

Thanks for the tip :)
