TBH without knowing what the drive circuitry is like in the instrument cluster, the only "safe bet" is to use the same type of sensor as standard (and one with the same interface).
I'm guessing that the sensor is a variable reluctance sensor with an active circuit to give a nice pulsed waveform.

Did you read that off your cereal box??
I'm just using the same sensor as the last guy did :) simples

Aaah, that explains why you're so clever, electricity is witchcraft as far as I'm concerned :)

If you can do a little kit for that you might be on a little earner and doing a service to the "community" at the same time.
Don't put off 'till tomorrow what you can enjoy today

I have to say I'm a bit apprehensive about taking my new official aprilia one off now incase it does an aprilia and stops working :)

Haha - always a risk!
If, worst case, anything happens to your instrument cluster, I do have a couple of spares.

It's not the instruments I'm worried about, it's the new £80 quid sensor.
Maybe I'll sabotage my mates RSV and get him to try it out

I had a nightmare trying to solder the wires together as the old ones were all black and minging (might be why it stopped working). So for now I've just crimped connectors on

If I'd got mine tested I would have sent that as an emergency fix, but I'm off to the new forest on it for the weekend so won't be testing it until I get back (too scared of moving the new aprilia sensor and it breaking)
