I had the same problem...was a starter relay not letting go

Sorry, but I've looked at the wiring diagram, a shorting relay will continue with ignition on or off, as it feeds directly from the battery. Sticking starter button is fed by switched 12V, so would stop when ignition is turned off.

Starter solenoid terminals have welded themselves together. Hopefully the replacement arrives in the morning.

That will teach me to be cocky, cleaning up starter motor connections today, turning over really slow and re setting dash to factory settings......
