HELP NEEDED

Ok if it happens when you press the starter button, that narrows down the search.
It could be:

• * some problem in the starter switch shorting to earth (eg to the bars)
  * Wiring between the starter switch and the starter relay shorting to earth (insulation gone)
  * Wiring on the power side between the starter relay and the starter motor shorting to earth (insulation gone)
  * Starter motor windings shorted out (the manual might tell you what impedance you should expect from a good starter)
  * Starter motor jammed and not spinning (therefore generating no back-emf and huge current flowing)

OK....i'm thinking the starter button is f##ked.......just pulled it out and there's no spring back to it .....if that makes sense ? Could this just be sticking on and not popping out ater use.....

Thanks for the advice D-R , I will have a go tomorrow .............would this also cut power to my PC111 ?

If I remember, PCIII pulls its power from the fuel injector wires so if that is fused with the starter it will

Right have taken the starter switch apart and the spring is nailed , couldn't even get it to pull apart to try and replace it so am hoping that's the problem ?
Am leaving the bike alone tomorrow and not going near it to take a break from frying my brain and trying to get it working......Have the tail piece off and checked the wires and can't see anything out of order there which doesn't help me really as i was hoping to find something wrong.....

Got to go back to work next week so it's looking like no riding for me this time home which is gutting as when i get back it's going to be december.......

The joys of the Falco are wearing me down big style this time and have to say the more i look at this the more i am thinking it's not a bad idea s1000rr......if i could only afford it !!!

LOL ....cheers lads , I know it's all meant to be part of the "FALCO LOVE " thing but by god i've known women who are a lot easier then this......no offence !!

Can't add much, but.
Mine was doing a similar thing. Instruments on, no priming noises and nothing on the button. I'd had the tail off and knocked a multiblock off.
It was on the near side, under the tail plastics, closest one to the front. I'm guessing it's a relay of some sort but if you unplug it the bike don't go.

I doub't it's just the spring that's causing the problem.

The merely hold the contacts apart and carries the current to the contact in the button. It'll either not start or always try to start if this area is the problem.

Since the fuse blows as soon as you press the startes indicates that it's working although a bit fooked.

There's been a spate of shorting issues lately, I had one too. There may be a culprit at the rear cylinder, it's mentioned earlier in this thread.

Get a multimeter on the low ohms range (keep bike switched off) and check for continuity between the wires from the starter button and the frame/battery, if you get a reading of anything other than 1 on either wire, that's the one with the short. I'm pretty sure you'll find a short on the wire from the switch to the solenoid (red/Yellow from memory).

Disconnect the 2way connector at the starter solenoid and check for continuity again. If it's gone then the starter wires should be
OK and you'll need to look further, but I'm betting one of these is the short.

There is a 4way block connector behind the dash with only 3 terminals used that connect to the starter side switch gear and a (red/yellow) if I've got it right, wire with its own single bullet type connector.

Disconnect both of these and you've isolated the starter button wiring and you can start checking the individual elements for shorts, by looking for continuity beetween wires that shouldn;t be connected.

Also worth checking the ignition barrel isn't the culprit, but I'll be buggered if I know hoe to do that.

Sorry for late reply but I got a call back to work early and been without the net for a week as well but I thought I’d let you all know that I left the house and the old bird was flying again ...........and yes it was all down to little old me !!!

I could go into how long it took me to strip the thing down to it's full naked self or how I took the starting motor out to test that losing half the skin on my knuckles and trying to stay cool without taking a hammer to the thing but I won't. All I’ll say is some twat......THAT'S ME BY THE WAY .........that while fitting the new exhaust I had caught a wire behind the hanger without knowing so when I tighten it up it basically earthed against the frame ( as said thank you very much ) and was blowing out the starter button.......

Now yes needless to say I was very pee'd off but that was overcome by the fact that the bloody bike was firing up again so I quickly forgave myself for being the said TWAT !!!

Once again just wanted to say many many thanks to all for the help and getting me in the right direction but next time just remember to tell me to undo all I have done to it or better still just say "DON'T F##KING TOUCH IT" !!!

Not back home to gods county till early Dec but at least i'm getting Xmas at home., just ......got to be back on board by the 27th / 28th i think...

Am thinking of seeing how much my re-sray is going to cost me this time , may treat myself instead of letting my good lady spend it all on presents for her friends / family / kids and anyone else she seems to know........not that i let it get to me or anything !!

I will say one thing though and that is even though you don't realsie it you do learn somethings while you're doing all that work looking for a fault and i now know how to get to pretty much most things now and where they are............Valve checks next , am i brave ( stupid ) enough to give those puppies ago!
