rear caliper on fire
think its time to overhaul my rear caliper and replace disc & pads. touched the rear brake coming down a slip road off a47, felt like it was binding & brake padal a total sponge so pulled over. smoke and flames (rubber bleed nipple and plastic brake light switch cable both touching caliper alight!) good job i had a bottle of water in my bag.
got home ok after cooling off (front brake only), just stripped rear caliper and pads are almost just metal left, my bad for not checking i know, but no advisory on mot less than 1000 miles ago.
any advise on work needed to the caliper, or on what disc & pads to replace them with much appreciated.

Clean the paint off the pad edges so they slide into place easily.Nogwuy wrote:think its time to overhaul my rear caliper and replace disc & pads. touched the rear brake coming down a slip road off a47, felt like it was binding & brake padal a total sponge so pulled over. smoke and flames (rubber bleed nipple and plastic brake light switch cable both touching caliper alight!) good job i had a bottle of water in my bag.

If you have to tap them into place they are too tight and will stick on when brake has been used.
Copper slip the edges and the back of the pads on the steel has this will stop sqealing of the brakes
