...regarding service, I recently got an electrical 'overhaul' done at Southern Cross in Kilburn - not too much of a hike if you're in the 'greater London' part of Essex like me. They're possibly a bit pricey (goes with their MV Augusta franchise I suppose), but the boss there really knows his way around Aprilia's.

Hi there; I took my Falco down to my local body shop yesterday to get a quote on painting the middle parts of the fairing (currently black) red. He said the paint looked like a dye method rather than paint. Hence very difficult to match to the rest of the bike. At 600 to paint the whole bike I'm tempted to mad at this point!

I had my hugger painted to match the Flamingo Red of the majority of the bike, and the guy got a very close (but not exact) match to the colour. He did confess to tearing his hair out over trying to match the original paint, and reckoned it was the first time he'd ever not managed to get a bang-on match. So it certainly isn't a simple paint code to match.
Is that red one of those colours which is built up from layers of different colours, like the Futura's Stream Silver is said to be?mangocrazy wrote:I had my hugger painted to match the Flamingo Red of the majority of the bike, and the guy got a very close (but not exact) match to the colour. I think that's the case; the base coat (and probably intermediate coats) affects the final appearance, which hugely complicates the process for anyone trying to replicate the colour. I know that the 'Ducati Red' of some years ago relied on a pink basecoat to get the desired colour. Don't know if that's still the case.

I bought some of the paint at RSbikepaint.
The panels have to be primed and then there is a silver water based 1st coat.
Then there is the candy/flamingo red which goes on top in very thin layers.
The more layers the darker the red becomes, when you are happy, a gloss lacquer then finally goes on top.
Sounds so easy, if only.
I am getting a sprayer to try to do this for me, certainly not going to be cheap.
