Marzocchi fork standard spring rate?
I've just had a yellow spring shock rebuilt and re-sprung by Revs and some appropriate linkages given the once over.
I was going to get the forks serviced and set up too. (bike has done 23k miles)
I'm trying to get a feel for how the front will play with a shock set up for a person of rather a lot above average weight (I'm a muscular 8 foot 2...)
Cheers

That must have been quite some growth spurt.

In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular.

Not sure about Marzocchi fork spring rates. From personal experience I can say that standard Showa forks springs are too harsh and that changing them improves matters a lot. I'd guess that Aprilia would have specified the same spring rate for the Marzocchis as they did for the Showa forks (1.05kg/mm), but that is only a guess.
There's also no guarantee that spring dimensions for Marzocchi would be the same as for Showa (i.e. length and diameter), as the internals are very different. I think you'll need to ask an expert; i.e. a suspension chappie who's actually had both types of fork legs apart.
<edit> - But what is oversprung for a puny mortal may well be ideal for a muscular 8 foot 2 Greek God...

Cheers, mine are definitely not on the squishy side.mangocrazy wrote: I'd guess that Aprilia would have specified the same spring rate for the Marzocchis as they did for the Showa forks (1.05kg/mm), but that is only a guess.
The part numbers are different and if the part drawings are anything like to scale then they're a completely different length.
I'm going to pick the shock up after work tomorrow, I'll see what Revs think and report back.

Ahem. I didn't say the same spring, I said the same spring rate. I'm well aware that the Marzocchi innards are very different to the Showas.randomsquid wrote:Cheers, mine are definitely not on the squishy side.mangocrazy wrote: I'd guess that Aprilia would have specified the same spring rate for the Marzocchis as they did for the Showa forks (1.05kg/mm), but that is only a guess.

Aye, I knowmangocrazy wrote: Ahem. I didn't say the same spring, I said the same spring rate. I'm well aware that the Marzocchi innards are very different to the Showas.

Thought that if the forks are the same diameter and same overall length then the springs might be common to both.
We have a cunning plan, leave the bike with them, get it back a day or two later depending on if they have to order any bits after disassembling and measuring.
I now have a yellow spring shock with a silver spring on. That'll confuse people.
