Fans

Am I right in assuming that the signal is sent from the thermal switch on the engine to the relay on the dash and then to the fans?

Got no fans at the moment, so goin to swap a relay over and if that works, try and bypass the thermal switch.

Usual problem is a sticky thermo switch. I get mine working by removing said switch and alternately dunking it in hot and cold water to exercise it
