Had the bike in to get the shock fitted today, and they did a test ride to make sure everything was set up. Apart from the usual notes about clutch slave exhaust brackets and stuff they mentioned that both tyres are stepped. Had a look on google, and there doesn't seem to be much info. Anybody know WTF they are on about?

I suspect they mean the tread blocks between the grooves are wearing more at the front than the back.
How careful are you about your tyre pressures, or how old are the tyres, or could they have been old stock when you bought em?

I usually check them once a week, but have to admit that some weeks I did tend to forget and did end up running them at shall we say less that 20 psi

Tyres have done 4000 miles, and I tend to use engine braking, and can be a bit spirited on the acceleration.

Low pressure can cause this, as well as other things.
After years running Bridgestones with no problems, my last lot of tyres were BT021 back and front.
The 021 front "stepped" and wore funny, for no reason I could see.
I had run an 014 on the front before that with an 021 bacvk and was very happy, but thet stopped making the 021, so I went for the 021 pair.
A few other people noticed similar problems with uneven front tyre wear, some on here and more widely in other bike mags.
BT recently replaced them with the 023, I have already swapped the back and will swap the front in the next couple of weeks, will see how that goes.
I have known it on other tyres as well over the years.
Wheel alignment is another thing to check that sometimes, doesn't get done properly, may just get a quick check with a plank.
Worth a check.

If you've done more than a few miles at around 20psi then you don't need any other reason for the tyres to be fkd.

Any how 4000 miles is about done for a rear. Keep your next set at 36 front 42 rear within a couple of PSI.

I recently fitted a set of the maxxis sports touring tyres - 145 from evil bay for both front and rear

I bought these as an interim for my conti road attack 2's - but I have to say I have been impressed

they heat up quickly, stick well, and are good in the wet - if its a short term cash solution you want, then perhaps a good alternative?

I do have a set of conti 2's ready for some new wheels though.....

I had a pair delivered yesterday for my CBR1000F which I use for commuting. I was wondering what they would be like even though I've heard good reports.
Getting them fitted tomorrow so will do a report in due course.

Done 3 laps on a race bike and now on my falco,bejesus the bike drops so quick its unreal

Interesting choice Andy, I kept my CBR Thou for 7 1/2 years until I chopped it in for the Kwack 18 months ago.
Big supersonic arm chair, always loved the old bus, but not like the Falco.
Was fast, comfortable, brilliant two up, but a bit heavy in traffic. Dead comfortable for a long commute, handled well on fast roads and had absolutely brilliant pull out luggage clips, to fasten a bag on for work.
I even liked the linked brakes on my 95 model.
How do you find it?
