Probably selling the falco :(

Just a quick note to warn you all that I'm probably going to be getting rid of the Falco in the near future.

I've been looking at getting a YZF750 for a while now, I was going to get a cheap one and turn it into a project bike (and keep the Falco), but I've found a mint one which is a bit more dosh so will become my main bike, unfortunately this means the Falco has to go.

Had no issues with the Falco, loved the torque and the general ride (although I have been told I look a bit daft from the front as the bike is so slim and I'm a bit wider :smt003 ), if I get another v twin in the future the Falco will definitely be first choice. Unfortunately when I was 17 and had not long passed my CBT (a long time ago now) I walked into the local Yamaha dealer, saw a red and white YZF750 and promised myself I would buy myself one in the future. I have wanted one ever since and you just can't fight that sort of pull. Now is the perfect time for me to get one, and having found this mint one (which is the same colour scheme as the one in the shop) I just have to go for it.

If anyone knows of someone that is after one, watch this space. It's done 20000 miles, it's one of the faster red ones :) I'll be after £2k for it I shall advertise it elsewhere for a bit more, but will let it go to someone on here for £2k

If I get the YZF I'll post some pictures up and put a proper ad in the for sale section.

They're not lilac, they're pink. If I'd walked into the dealership back then and seen a pink one this would never be happening. Yamaha should never have released that colour, the power rangers are far too young to be riding bikes and the pink power ranger is the only person who could get away with riding one (except maybe George from rainbow)

Yes - go and exorcise those demons and when the call of the V-twin whispers (roars) to you on the breeze, we'll see you back on a Falco at some point.

Don't forget, Ridersite is bigger than the AprilaRidersite and we'll expect you to be sticking around (and you'll still be welcome in the Aprilia bits)

What's that saying? You should never meet your heroes.

Heavier, slower, older, no where near as well built and much uglier. Why man, why??? I can understand trading up to something newer and better spec'd than a Falco, but to go backwards? I don't get it. Maybe it's because I never drooled over any bikes in my youth, it was guitars with me untill I hit 30.

Still, be interested to read what you make of it, how it lives up to your expectations, what it's like to ride etc.

Funny you should say that, my mate said exactly the same thing to me, however, I rode one and loved it (I have to say I was a bit concerned about muddying the image I had in my mind of them)

That's not a very fair assessment, it's the same weight, more power (obviously less torque), faster quarter mile, faster top speed, it's only done 1500 miles (with old mots to prove it) compared to my Falco's 20K, and is only a year older than the Falco.

Buying a bike because it's faster, newer and better specced isn't really the point. We ride bikes because it's fun and we enjoy them, what could possibly be more enjoyable than owning something you've wanted half your life?? If someone only rides a bike for the adrenaline and thrill of going as fast as possible without dying they should mothball their brand new RSV 4 Factory APRC and take up skydiving/teasing great whites.

As for the looks, beauty is in the eye of the beholder (my missus must have some funny eyes). I've always prefered the looks of older bikes, after about 2003 they got a bit too small for my liking. I love the look of the YZF's and always have, to be fair I also love the look of the Falco (probably 2 of my top 5 favourite looking bikes)

If I crash it, sell it or anything else detrimental it the Falco shall be my first port of call, I have nothing bad to say against them. The original plan was to get an old doggie YZF and turn it into a project/second bike so I could keep the Falco, but this is too good an opportunity to pass up. I can pick up another 20K falco with relative ease (an a bit of patience) but I'll never find another mint YZF which still needs running in for that price.

You never know the man may be lying to me about the quality of this YZF and have used pictures of another bike in which case the Falco will be safe (I'll find out tomorrow)

Only problem I have with all that (and I always liked the YZF750R), is that in that good a nick and such low mileage, you will never want to use it that much, so where do you get your buking thrills if it only goes out on specila sunny days to one off bike meets.
If you do use it regularly it will deteriorate quckly and you lose your investment.
When I got rid of the old CBR1000F I had as a second bike, I got close to buying an immaculate Urban Tiger, but got the 9R as I wanted something to ride.
If I had lots of money and lots of space, I'd have lots of classic bikes in big heated garage, and take them out to appropriate classic bike meets on sunny days.
Still keep buying lottery tickets.

Then again -
Went out to the South Leverton Classic Bike meeting on Wednesday and was a serious drooling session with such things as -
HRD Vincent and one of the Aussie remanufactured Vincents (with a Sealey frame (???)), can't remember the name.
absolutelty immaculate early Kwack 750 H1 triple,
ditto Honda CBX, Kwack 1300 six and CBR1100R
Rocket 3s
Triumph Tridents
Tritons
Gorgeous very sweet sounding early 125 Bantam (D1?)
Royal Enfield Crusader GT, GT250 Suzies, BSA M21s, Matchless G15 CSR,
numerous original Bonnies and a very early Tiger 100
BSA Rocket Gold Star, numerous 50s and 60s Ducatis and Guzzis.
BSA Gold Flash and Watsonian combo and .......................
I could go on much longer, sorry for boring all you younger types.
It's just so good to see all these bikes ridden there by people who love to own them and ride them to meetings like this.
Shame about the many tell tale pools of oil!

P.S. There was a space for a nice YZF750R,
but somebody parked a Falco in it.

Just swap the plan around when the time is right - buy an old dog of a Falco and make that your project.
You know your way around them and what to do to them .... and, let's face it, they all become a bit of a project anyway ..... but as I say .... when the time's right .....

GO DO IT MAAANNN. I am not a fan of Yammies per-se', but I DO like the look of the YZF705SP and must own up to wanting one too.

My real love is for Kwakers :smt008 ( and NO not him on here.... :smt005 before you bright sparks chirp in... :smt016 ) coz I like their styling and engines,
especially the ZX7-R (all versions).

Having never ridden V-twins before, my Falco, it has really got under my skin and I love it to bits now and can't imagine I would ever sell it.
