Indicators

#1 Post by Dalemac » Sat Apr 09, 2011 12:10 am

Hey Guys,

Been messing with the falco, doing a few, standard mods. One of them is a new set of indicators to replace the mahusuve originals.

I havnt gone for anything flash because of my budget, but i bought a set of 4 indicators, just normal bulbs.

Fitted them to the bike tonight, but when each half of the indicator circuit is complete, neither indicator works. Romove either the front or rear and the other indicator will flash like normal. Im guessing the indicator relay isnt powerful enough to supply buth indicators with enough power. Does that sound about right? if so, where would i find a more powerful relay?

Thanks,

Dale

The standard Falco bulbs are 10w and most replacement ones are 21W. You can replace the flasher unit with one from Halfords for around£6-7, You need the rectangular one rated at 2 x 21W with 2 pins on it. It''s a direct replacement for the originals.
The LeD ones might give you even more grief as they tale very little current and not usually enough to get the relay working. I believe some have built in balast resistors but, if not, you'll have to wire some in parallel with each side. There's a few threads on here about it somewhere.
The ride is the reason ........ the destination is just the excuse.

Dave beat me to it, exactly as he says, the problem will probably be down to 21w bulbs rather than 10w.
Check that first, Ditto also for LEDs.

thanks for the info, i thought it would be the relay at fault.

When i ordered the led indicators i also bought the reccomended 2 pin led relay, so hopefully these together will work!

Thanks for the input as usual,

Dale

you might fall foul of the cross connection through the dash telltale.

If you get all the indicators flashin at once then that's the problem.

A couple of diodes and a steady hand with a soldering iron and you'll be sorted, there's a good how to on AF1 and probably here too.
