A new bike
Yesterday I went to have a look at a Benelli TnT 899s, and had in the back of my mind that maybe I should part ex the Falco. After getting back on it today, I have definitely put that thought out of the window. Despite the odd foible here and there I can't get rid of it, it's too much fun. The other half doesn't want to do her DAS until next summer, but I have been given the go ahead to get myself another bike and have narrowed it down to the following, depending on test rides over the next week weather permitting:
Benelli Tnt 899s
Dorsodoro 750
Speed Triple
VFR 800

I fancied the Benelli TreK. I had a sit on one a couple of years ago and thought it felt just right. I'm told the engine was a bit mutch for the chasis and the 889 (?) is a better package. I also lusted after a Speed Triple, but although it is a hoot, it doesn't seem practicle for touring.
So I'm waiting for the Tiger 800 to come along and I'll look at that (the big tigger is too big). But like you Falconihlist, when I get on the Falco, all thoughts of betrayal go away. I wish I had space for two or three bikes...

Ah the Benelli (always better pronounced with a welsh accent as Benethli - like Llanelli .... same goes for Pirelli - but I digress).
As far as quality goes, they are a mixed bag - I hear at one point they were extremely poor - although I have heard that it has been sorted. If you're looking at a new one, then not too much of a worry but if it's a used one, then go over it with care.

The pre-chinese buy-out ones are pretty shit for reliability. The new ones aren't that well built either looking round them. They may work a lot better now, but the fit and finish is still a long way off Aprilia's levels.
I really like the 1130 TNT cafe racer, it's one of my favourite recent bike designs, and Debz drools over the Tre-K Amazonas, but after spending some time properly looking round them in Milan we both came to the conclusion that the build quality just isn't there yet.

Well, after a few days of looking around at all sorts ranging from Honda to MV, Benelli, Yamaha and Kawasaki, I thought I would go and have a look at the Monster 796. After getting to West London Suzuki, I was steered to one bike that I hadn't even considered at the time, the new 796 Hypermotard. It is an absolute gem of a bike, granted it isn't technically as advanced as an Aprillia for the same money, but I had the same feeling as the first time I got onto a Falco.
After taking the views of people on other bikes, all that remains, is a test ride when the weather clears, and then it will be time to get rid of the car, as the Falco cannot be sold under any circumstances (her indoors has decreed) as it is my first bike.
What I couldn't understand though, was some dealers were more than happy to give advice, answer questions and knew what they were talking about, and others couldn't even be bothered to get up from playing solitaire on their computers. Obviously this recession doesn't seem to be affecting everybody.
There will still be no ducati red in the house though, I have to go for the fastest colour of course
