Scorpion Race Cans Question

#1 Post by FalcoJock » Sun Sep 19, 2010 3:50 pm

If a Falco is described as "Fitted with Scorpion race cans", will it (should it) have had other mods done to tune it for the cans? If it should have but hasn't, will it have caused any harm?

Does "race cans" imply that tey are not road legal?

Cheers.

Cant speak for the Falco as such but on the Mille it is rumoured that if you just put on a race can it can damage the engine by making it run too rich.
Ideally it should be matched to a performance airfilter (On the early Mille you also need to cut a wire to enable the 2nd map in the eprom, later models need a visit to the dealer to have map 2 switched).

Does that help

I have a Falco with Scorpion race cans - but it also has the Renegade air box and Factory Pro chip.

IIRC the Scorpion cans on my Falco are identical whether they are stamped for race use or not... its just whether or not baffles are included.

When I bought my Falco there were'nt any baffles but there were "dimples" on the underneath of the exhaust snouts. I simply called Scorpion, bought the appropriate baffles and fitted them... and also managed to remove the race use etching.

I never actually use the baffles, but when it comes to MOT time I will and hopefully this means I wont have to put the stock ones back on.

My Falco came with Scorpian race cans and it has the wire cut for the map 2. I have since added a Dr Rossi chip and it actually runs much better than before. Loud aren't they :smt003

i seriously doubt that it will have done any harm

BUT

opening up the exhausts - and trust me the original anchors are both heavy and restrictive - is but half of the action needed for nirvana

I would change the airbox - K&N have good reports (personally for the cost of them fit an evo or renegade solution....)

after that, consider - and this is where it gets personal choice time - a new chip . Griff sells and rates the Dr Rossi chips, many swear by gabro

if you are sad, mad and dangerous to know, then go for the renegade or similar chip with a PC3, 54 mm throttle bodies etc....

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Dr Rossi's chips are top notch , I have one as do many many Mille owners and all report positive increases.
Well recomended.

The reason I asked was I saw 2004, very low mileage Falco for sale with the afore mentions cans fitted. But by the time I got to it, it had gone. Thanks for the responses though.
