The Bird has flown.....

#1 Post by Tweaker » Mon Sep 06, 2010 11:55 am

Well, she's finally gone! Howard's mate collected the Falco on Saturday so my faithful bird has gone to a new and appreciative (I hope) home. The only thing that went wrong in over 7 years was a leaking clutch slave, replaced by an MPL unit - superb reliability.

I'll miss the Falco but, I'm very pleased with the Fut so far - and a few mods along the way will make it mine :smt002
The ride is the reason ........ the destination is just the excuse.

Many thanks Dave, I'm sure my mate Dave (W) will enjoy it!
It was nice to "broker" a deal in this way with two mates, who both seem to be happy with the deal, rather than somebody annonymous, buying or selling! Your bike will be looked after Dave as my mate only tends to ride in summer and spends much time cleaning and looking after his bikes.
He has had quite a bit of pain from his back recently and hopefully things will improve after his operation in a few weeks time.
After that he will probably not be riding again until next spring.
Anyway, we went out for a run of around a hundred miles on Saturday afternoon, and he certainly enjoyed that, but it will take him a little while to fully appreciate it.
On a different theme, it was quite a special occasion for me.
I first started riding with my mate Dave over 46 years ago.
We have regularly been riding together at some time or other, over all these years. He has only ever stopped riding for something like about 12 months max, but I have had a few longer breaks. There have been occasions in that time when we have been out on the "same make" bikes. In the early days we both had Matchless and Triumph bikes and more recently we have both had Hondas over many years, but never the same model bike at the same time.
I normally ride mostly on my own, but often ride with Dave in the summer and it was nice to go out together on two Black Falcos.
One black Falco tends to get noticed, so two did get a bit of attention, and will probably get more.
We were also able to stop for a drink and discuss major issues like which exhaust is the loudest, I have Beowulf Dave's has Rene's, both with baffles in. Strangely, I thought his was the loudest, he thought mine.
One thing was certain, when he was behind me I always saw the HID dipped headlight!
The ride out was a bit of a special occasion, so thanks again Dave (C). :smt023

Sounds like good news all round ... though a shame it won't get used much during the more challenging months - though this year very understandable while "New Dave's" back recovers

Having had such a poor summer it's a depressing thought that the nights are now drawing in

This made me realise that I'd not had to ride in the dark for quite a while now .....

Oh well brace myself for winter and hope we actually get a summer next year ......

when hanna and myself took the falcos through the small town where she lives, a lot of heads turned at the V Twin thunder... lots appreciated the bikes :)

and baffles in..... both had MOT's done that day?

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Hopefully I may be able to drag him out a bit more on some of the drier days, but he's having vertebrae 1, 2 and 3 "welded together" in a couple of weeks, which means he won't be doing anything much for a month or so. His doctor reckons it will cure the pain with some slight loss of movement, but as he says he doesn't get much movement now without pain, so what the hell!
Just hopes he can get out on a bike a bit more often, once sorted.
He doesn't use a PC much, but they do have a PC with internet in the house, so will have to try and get him on here, whilst he's recovering at home.
