Oh right - you've done the tricky bit
There is nothing holding the basket on the shaft then. The little bit of movement you can feel is where the basket has worn the splines a little so they slide easily now but things get snug on the unworn part of the shaft.
Give it a bluddy good tug or if you have them, small pry bars will get it moving but be careful you don't distort the basket
Clutch issues?

Hopefully all sorted now.
Now being more familaiar witht eh design I'd recommend roosterNI, or any one else for that matter who is feeling any pulsing back through the clutch lever to check out the state of the clutch release bearing. An easy job that would only take 15 minutes or so. So easy in fact I'm kicking myself for not doing it as soon as I felt something was amiss.
Mine had been going for a long while and I hope the oil filter did its job as it had ground up "bearing paste" to contend with...
I've tried to clean everything out well , the clutch plates seem to be in good condition and I didn't experience any problems on my trip to work today.
