That is outrageous I would say. Had 3 Ducatis and the dearest service I ever encountered was £629(that was a major service including belt change and 2 new tyres). Good luck in your appeal and let us know how you get on.

Normally herbacious I would give you stick for being from the wrong side of the pennines but we have to stick together against these shandy drinking southerners!!! :smt002

On the subject of services, I know mine needs a damn good coat of looking at and I will be looking into booking it in towards the end of August ish.

Unfortunatly, and much to the disgust of my engineer father, I break out into a cold sweat if any jobs require a Haynes 2 spanner skill level.

I take it a major service would sort out the jittering from low revs?

and which flat lander?? think you will find that it is only the vertically challenged - tim, the extremely hirstute - samray, and the webbed breasted, jadaris who answer that description - me, I am from the posh part of cheshire - I get out of the bath for a wee.... sometimes


Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Flatlanders my bum! i've tabbed round various parts of Norfolk and Suffolk and its far from bloody flat (although it isnt mountainous) !! :smt002

I believe the grinning cheshire cat is getting all muddled up.. FENLAND folk are the 'webbed footed flatlanders'.. we are most definately not them although I find myself surrounded by them all the time due to my current location..

..and we definately arent part of this north/south thing you lot have going on.. we are East Anglian and proud of it!! :smt020

I'm no genius Herbacious and up here we aren't spoilt for choice when it comes to workshops but £650 sounds extortionate!

You can slice and dice it any way you like to make yourself feel better (we've all been there) but it seems hard to justify the total cost. Forget quoting ex VAT prices (that's what the dealers do when they're desperate) - the fact is we all pay VAT and the bottom line is what it is (... HIGH in your case! ).

I agree with earlier comments re letter writing etc. However, I'd add that that's only helpful if you don't plan on returning to the dealer in question. If, on the other hand, you think you've struck a rapport with them or they're the only realistic option for miles around just get in there and make your case known. Unless they're completely daft they should be offering you some money back or something to sweeten the blow.

This may be some help but before contacting them I think you need to have a good understanding of why the dealer has charged what they have - ie their side of the story.

Probably too late this time but ALWAYS ask how much it will cost before you put the bike in (and get a couple of quotes from other places to see whether it's in the right ballpark). For any difference between what they charge you and what they quoted, there must be a clear and reasonable explanation - and if it is a significant amount they should confirm you are happy to proceed before doing the work.

Oh and on the subject of VAT, in the UK things sold to the consumer must have their prices quoted INCLUDING VAT - It's the law!

Good advice Andy, I always do that with cars and bikes, but most car garages seem to find some excuse to still charge you way above what they quoted, so I regularly end up going to war with them at the collect and pay time.
Usually ends up in a compromise half way and I come out happier, but I am starting to wonder if this is the "standard trick".

Bit like the old Government trick who leak out the petrol (or whatever) might be going up 20p per litre in the near future. Then when it only goes 10p or 12p a few weeks later, we are all so relieved we don't bloody complain.
