first run of year!

#1 Post by roosterNI » Sun Feb 07, 2010 12:17 am

hi all, had first small run of my year today, got to check out new mods, had fitted a gabro chip and opened up the airbox, and have to say its quite a difference, front picks up in 2nd when on the power, feels far torquier and smoother down low, also fitted pc3, but running it without map til i get it set up. also fitted tuono shock and linkage which is alot stiffer far less sag, but bloody clutch started slipping again! so frustrating, think problem stems from oil i'm using, but question is, is there aftermarket clutch springs that help? am using barnett springs at moment, but cant feel any difference, will change the oil again and hope it solves problem. anybody ever use washers in with the clutch springs for a little extra bite?

Used washers on the clutch springs on old yamaha RD/LCs but not the Falco. I've not had clutch slip using either fully or semi synthetic despite being an early model. I think roughning up the plates has been advocated as well as sticking to semi synth oil.

Pushing my luck I know, but 26000+ miles on the original y2k clutch and no slippage (yet). I have always used semi-synthetic of the recommended grade (whatever that is).

My 2001 model slipped badly after 10K service and fully synthetic oil. Left it for a short while to see if it got any better, then swapped for semi synth.
Still using semi synthetic and running fine nearly 5 years later at almost 30K.

yep

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...
