White-spring Mille Shock Refurb

#1 Post by FalcoJock » Fri Jan 22, 2010 11:02 am

I now have my Mille shock. It looks OK, if a little "used" but I might send it for refurbishment. So a couple of questions:

There are a couple of places advertise on ebay, but any recommendations of where is a good place to do the refurb?
How much should I expect to pay (roughly)?
Is there a shorter valve that can be fitted to avoid having to grind down the existing one (I'll ask the refurb folks to fit one)

Cheers.

Andy or somebody will come along shortly about the refurb, when I bought my White Spring it was virtually new, so I fitted it staight on the bike, gradually modding the valve, trying it then taking a bit more off until it fitted. If you have it refurbished ask the people doing it to fit a recessed valve, which they should be able to do, which will be the best solution. Numerous people on different forums have said they have had this done during a rebuild, so must be quite straightforward.
There may be some shorter valves available, but I would think that a bit unlikely. In any case, like when I kept cutting a bit off the valve and trying to fit and having to cut a bit more off then repeat again. If they said we have this valve it is 2mm shorter, will this be OK, you woudn't know!
Recessed has to be the way to go.

call them - and talk with them - when i looked into doing that for jadaris' mille shock they were very reasonable

I believe others have had good experience there

You may want to weigh yourself in full gear as well - that way you can get the right spring....

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

I've used Revs Racing - John (who runs the business) serviced and re-sprung my Ohlins forks before I fitted them.
John's a good chap and does a good job - though he was busy when he did my stuff and I did have to pop over a few times to collect them as he forgot when I was coming ...

He certainly does service the white spring shocks as I asked him. A few months back he was charging £85 + parts if I remember correctly.

Yesterday, I gave the mille shock a squirt of degreaser, a rinse and wipe with a cloth and it has come up pretty well. The spring is unmarked and everything is clean, shiny and unmarked. I know that is no guarantee of how the innards are, but maybe I should have it fitted and see.

This is especially tempting since my car failed its MOT yesterday to the tune of £430 (ouch). I've never had a car fail (or a bike) that I can remember. Maybe it's the 18000 mile service interval means things wear out that would normally be picked up during a service.

Anyway, I'm broke now for a few weeks!
