Number Plate Light - what yours like?

#1 Post by DavShill » Mon Aug 24, 2009 4:51 pm

I've had the tiny light that came with the evolutione tail tidy fitted and it's recently broken. The metal tabs that the wires are soldered to have snapped off. Just bought a stailess job from fleece-bay and it's not very good. Too big and will look ugly.

So what are your solutions and what have you got fitted. Recommendations and pics please.

A mate of mine bought some LED numberplate bolts from our local Harley dealer for his ZX7R a few years ago. Extremely effective, they just look like the normal mounting bolts but have a little led in the bottom of the head of the bolt which casts a light onto the numberplate. Makes things very tidy.

I have one LED bolt. I bought a pair, one worked for a month, then stopped. It was replaced with the other one today. Hopefully this one with work for longer.

The original tail tidy light is a piece of crap that packed up very quickly.

I opened the hole up a bit, just enough to fit an LED dash bulb held in by it's flange and a little clear silicone sealant. I happened to have some dash bulb sockets laying about, but you could solder and shrink wrap instead.

THIS sort of thing in white. Only issue is that it does shine a white light at the rear, which is illegal. You could paint the back black, but I passed a couple of MOT's with it unpainted.

Hi Dave, try an old fashioned car spares shop.
The one on my bike was from a local shop which at the time had different sizes of lights and reflectors.

I've not got one. I did have an LED one on there but it broke a week after i bought the bike. I've never been stopped however, and MOT's are fine as its not a requirement accouring to my local garage.
I will fit one when i get round to it for visability more than anything
