GPS mount

#1 Post by Ozboy » Fri Aug 07, 2009 1:29 pm

Apols in advance to the moderators if I've stuck this in the wrong place.......

I'm on the hunt for GPS mount solution and have been looking at all the multitude of where one can stick ones device. The home made jobbies under the windscreen looked good but this week stumbled across a new/old stock Priller tankbag in the states for $50. Only problem with tankie is that it doesn't come with the yolk stem dodat.....so now I'm thinking that if I get a GPS stem mount that kills 2 birds.

I know there's the telfrizer (or something like that) that are specific to each bike but has anyone tried this universal type or any thoughts....

I also promise to try and get my s@£t together on the w/end and post up a few pics....

You mean something like this?

A RAM fork stem mount. Not sure where to get one here and you'll need other bits to mount your sat-nav.

Yeah that looks like it, very similar if not the same as the one in the link.

I was just wondering if anyone had experience with the universal fit type ones, which are a bit cheaper, vs the bike specific stem mount ones. The universal ones use a rubber expansion plug and wasn't sure whether this fit would be good n tight enuff for GPS and to wrap the tankbag strap around.

I have an expandable rubber plug thing (sounds a bit like a deviants sexual device...) that mounts into the steering stem hex hole. I've never had it come lose, not even with a StreetPilot 2710 mounted - which isn't the lightest satnav.

Being completely useless though, I have no idea where I got it from or who made it.

Yep I got that one and not 100% happy. If you can get the one that has an expandable rubber thingy ( ooh eer missus ) that is better. The Telferizer one spins on its axle a bit so the satnat does move a little.

Did a bit of digging around and I have one of these types of mounts:

Never failed yet and has always held the satnav securely.
