instrument bracket/frame/thingy wanted

#1 Post by k1w1boy » Wed Jul 29, 2009 4:18 pm

I may be whistling dixie as these things are probably one of the first bits to get FUBAR in a crash, but I doggedly intend to resist spending £250-280 for a new one as long as I can. Any links, leads, arcane cheap part conjuring rituals welcome. Is part #3 in link below :smt006

...mine's bent, and I've gotten used to this, but the mounting point where it attaches to the main frame has snapped meaning the front fairing bounces a bit and has caused me to lose at least one fairing bolt. Keep me posted Joe and if you can detach the thing consider what you'd want for it :smt006

the fairn nut that keeps turning is number 7l bellow clip no 5 is all rusty and worn now that iv tried to stop it turning wth long nose pliers, any ideas are welcome,

the clock bracket i am told is light ally so it should straiten , nothing is broken on it, if i could get it off i would use my new one as a template to straiten then you can have it

it is alloy, mine as snaped on both sides where it bolts to the yoke, this bracket takes the weight of the clocks, headlight, nose fairing and once it's broke all the weight sits on the side panels.so i would'nt advise straightening it as it will weaken it even more.worst case your whole front end could fall off. k1w1boy if your is shakeing check it out straight away.

i was told on another site it was alloy , i have a friend that said he can straiten it no problem , maybe he thinks its steel , i dont know ,

he has all the tools working in the shipyard in goven , thats why he needs the new one to set the mirror angles , getting it square isint to much bother ,

At £250 a pop, and one of the first things to get bent in an off, this would be a logical part for a pattern spares maker to copy, wouldn't it? Or is there some kind of intellectual property law that makes it illegal? I'm sure that even at £125 a pop (i.e. half price) there should be sufficient profit margin to make it viable...

Thanks for the heads up on the weight bearing issue Fasta. Am off to spend a couple a hundred squid on an engine service this week, but will be gentle with the thing lest the front end gets dumped. Any thoughts (anyone!) about doing a putty 'weld' on it in the meantime? :smt006 :smt006 :smt006
