nancyboy returns

#1 Post by k1w1boy » Wed Apr 15, 2009 8:26 pm

Distance: 1998 miles (return)
Equipment:
Bike - one slightly foxed blue, 03 falco
Luggage - 'eastpak' (kreiga wannabe) backpack; Oxford 'lifetime' humpback strap on tankbag
...after my initial reservations I made it to Brno in the Czech Republic and back. No 'interesting' route planned - just a googled highway zap. Absolutely loved it! Rode to somewhere on the E40 south of Frankfurt on day one and made it to Brno the following day. Rode back - after 3 days with my oldies who are teaching there- more directly, getting from Brno to Aachen in one day.
Cultural highlight: some castle on the lake near Brno - barely touristified, cheap and interesting.
Hairiest moment: drizzly mist with almost zero visibility heading down to eurotunnel on my first day - couldn't work out where or what was coming up bend wise on the m20.
Bikey highlight: cruising at between 115 and 125mph on the A6 south of Munich heading for the Czech border: perfect mountainy highway road, perfect weather and no cars.
Dodgiest road - the 200km between Prague and Brno - road so poorly maintained that I thought my shock had packed up or I had a flat tyre.
People Highlight -Czech bikers: always ready to give directions or in one case take me to a shop to help sort out scottoiler niggles ( as well as donate some of the wifes spare earplugs)
Many stories to tell, but suffice to say the 'seal' is broken and I'll be back. Heavy blue bitch bore up well; tank bag worked surprisingly well and would recommend it; got 160miles to a tank of gas; scottoiler actually cleaned my chain (or one side of it) and only used one fill (on '1') for whole trip. Was warned through various sources about how bad Czech drivers were... wonder what european guides say about driving in the UK (I found the Czechs largely courteous and conscientious motorists compared with here).

glad you enjoyed the trip - and have obviously been drinking hero juice or are sure the other half does not read here at all....

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...
