First 2009 ride and some advice needed

yeah welcome Dalemac.
took it for a 40km ride today. First i took the front brakepads out and pushed the pistons all in in order to make as much space between pads and discs as possible, assembled again. Rode 3-4 km without using the frontbrake at all and it helped, no funny feeling anymore. After applying the front brake a couple of time there is a little wobble in the lever when applied gently...goes away when full brake power is done. So i think its all ok now. Went a booked a time for service and they will do a further check on the brakes. Finally i ordered a new chain/sprocket set so i should be good to go in a week.
slightly off thread... the new Gabro chip and filter works like a charm. It really pulls like a train now...and the sound..sigh.. just fantastic.

Its impossible to get all the air out of the line first time. (you did bleed the brakes right?) usuallly i bleed them up the best i could, do 10-15 miles and then bleed them off again, to get any remaining air out of the system.finn wrote:yeah welcome Dalemac.

Long-time Falconeers will know better than me, but doesn't this sound like the sticking brake bobbins/buttons type thingy? From memory, going around all of the disc buttons and (gently) tapping the disc re-aligns them and makes the problem go away.finn wrote:After applying the front brake a couple of time there is a little wobble in the lever when applied gently...goes away when full brake power is done.
I may have got this wrong, but if so I'm sure someone will be along soon to correct me.
You're right - very likely that the semi-floating disks are no longer "semi-floating" properly.
The easiest way to sort this is to pop a bolt through the centre of the bobbins, tighten a nut down - and that gives you something to turn them. As you turn them, liberally spray the bobbins with brake cleaner.
That should free them up.
It's a bit time consuming as there are quite a few of them to do but I try to do this every year just lo keep things working well.

Thank you so much for the info, but remember you are talking to a guy who did his first front brake disassembly (and assembly) this weekend and to be honest i dont have a clue what you are talking about. Please educate me and a picture will do wonders.
Got my new licenseplate today so im desperate to go riding. I really appreciate your help here.. thanks again

ok look at your disks
the polished shiny bit is mounted around a dark coloured metal section that bolts onto the wheel
between the two are a series or circles that should have some movement in them - not so loose that they rattle but some movement!
these are the semi floating parts people are referring too
now, thanks to brake dust and normal road shite, these get gunged up - and when they do, they stop working/floating and can cause rattles etc
so, clean them - DRider's method is as good as any, so suggest that you try that
oh, invest in some brake cleaner as well as some gloves to protect your hands
I also use an old toothbrush to really get in and scrub :)

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...
desided to find more about this semi floating thing. found this:
