No problem - I was not complaining that you'd linked us - just a bit of a pre-emptive plea for a bit of moderation in responses on our side should things kick off (as I've seen them do elsewhere).
In all probability there will be no issue and your efforts will correct a bit of misunderstanding

quite restrained comments!

I have to be honest, my early bird - as in a 2000/1999 model is in very good order - might be very good if i ever stopped riding the bugger for long enough to clean it!

about the only paint problem i notice is on the tripe riser - but it has been off a few times recently!

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Sorry to use an age old Yorkshire phase Tom, but he's talking a load of bollocks.
To cover the spares bit first -
It is very difficult to comment on spares as I have needed almost nothing in 4 1/2 years and 20K miles.
Other than an odd bulb it has needed just a rear brake switch and a side stand switch. The latter was one of the early plastic pin type and I finally sheared it. I have managed to get these from an online dealer within 2 or 3 days.
The only other item bought from an Aprilia dealer was a new a rear brake pedal, but I could hardly blame that on unreliability as it was bent when I dropped the bike when a car pulled out on me almost exactly two years ago.
Not in stock and had to order, but again had it within two or three days. I ride all year round and although we don't get anything like as much snow as you do, we put a helluva lot of rock salt on our roads.
It has been the most reliable bike I have ever owned and most of my other recent bikes have been Hondas, still have a CBR1000, (prior to that had a CB750 F2N and a VFR750).
The fairing fasteners are much better quality than the stuff that Suzuki and a few others use, and are certainly at least a match for Honda.
Mine has picked up some rust on the odd caliper bolts and a few other places, but no rotting downpipes and collector boxes like your average Honda and most other Jap bikes.
I know people on this site have had some problems obtaining certain spares, but my experiences are all good.
There is only one major problem for me, that is the price of spares.
They even make Ducati prices look cheap. :smt009
But not such a problem if you don't need to buy them very often. :smt002

I own both (or did till we traded the 675 in). Both good bikes in their own right. Had more issues with things falling off or coming undone with the Triumph but nothing major. Aprilia sevice costs are worse than Triumph. Fasteners on the 675 are a bit crap (the plastic type on the underneath of the fairing)
Biggest issue with the 675 was the steering damper bolt coming undone. That was a potential danger zone

Would I own another 675???? Yes
Would i sell the Falco???? not a chance

Which is the better Imo

Falco.

Totally agree with everything said about Falco build quality but unable to comment on spares as I have not (yet) had to buy any.

As a side note, as a former SV owner I would be interested to know what said slanging match was all about (I'm guessing something stupid like which colour goes fastest :smt009 )

It was a slanging match on the other forum .... think the SV1000 owners felt their machines were better than Falcos in just about every way .... not everyone agreed with that view
Things calmed down eventually.

As one who has owned a TL1000S (one of the first batch in the country) I can categorically state that the Falco is better in every way. In fact the Falco is the bike the TL1000S should have been. And the SV1000 is just a warmed over, detuned version of the TL...

My four year old 20,000 mile+ falco still looks and rides like new despite my best efforts. Polishes up to it's original factory finish on the few occasions it gets cleaned, NO CORROSION ANYWHERE! OK, the caliper bolds went a bit rusty, but that's because I missed some Wonder Wheels that didn't get rinced off properly, any metal from any bike will corrode if you paint acid onto it.

The warantee is worthless though so it's a good job they're such reliable bikes, no matter what I do to mine it keeps on running.

I've only had one issue in getting parts, everything else has been there when I've needed it.

Verdict? The guy's talking out of his arse and clearly know fuck all about Aprilias.

Supposedly, he's owned one - a Pegaso, which if I read his post right, had been down the road, and when he bought it it needed fixing up, and half his problems were with this, not the actual bike
