Nasty noise...

#1 Post by falcomunky » Thu Apr 10, 2008 8:54 pm

K. I seem to recall this being touched upon in another, (unrelated), thread, but I get a nasty little noise every time I kill the engine. :smt009
Wether with the sidestand, key or killswitch, theres a little 'graunchy' noise that sounds to me like something kicking-back against something else.
Only lasts a split second but its a little worrying.
Occasionally it doesnt do it, but nine outta ten times it does.
Ive a bad feeling Im about to be told that the Starter Sprag Clutch is failing...?
If so, do I remember correctly that the Rotax shares the part with the 916/748?
If so, so, yay and then if, would this fit/would you buy it/is it a good price/etc??? :smt017

Oh, and please dont all rush out n snap these up! :smt002
Hope you can help!...

Here's the thread you were thinking of:

.... and here's Pierre's post from the old forum on fixing the sprag (with ducati bits)

wahey, something useful from me for once.

I wouldnt worry about it until it starts making the same noise when thumbing the starter. Hardest part is removing the flywheel but would be far far far easier if you had the correct puller, but I was too tight to import it from the usa :smt003 so damaged my crankshaft instead :smt012

Btw, mine is still working in my trackbike and done about 10 td's , next one on may9th at croft (if anyone wants to come laugh)

If the weather is fair, n you are still rolling after 2pm ish, then I might pop over to try n catch you after I finish work.
Remind me nearer the time! :smt002
So will the sprag on Ebay fit and is it a good buy, (looks in good nick to me)? :smt017
Two is the magic number... ;)
