Front brake master cylinder bleed nipple

#1 Post by fatboy » Tue Aug 02, 2016 6:24 pm

Can anyone tell me the size/pitch of this little bugger ?
I'm purging the bike of rusty shoddy stuff, will be putting braided lines on front and rear, previous experience tells me its a good idea to replace the rusty little fella with stainless before I start/ then fail to complete....
Thanks in advance

m6x1.0x26mm

For the love of god be extremely careful if you put a tap down to clean up the thread. The hole isn't fully threaded.

.. and a small amount of PTFE tape on reassembly with minimise air leaking past the threads..

They seal on the cone so no air will get past the thread anyway, and if it's not sealing on the cone you have bigger problems.

Wayno - yup you're right to say they seal on the cone, but only when you tighten them up... if the nipple is loose for bleeding and for example you're using a syringe to suck the fluid out (the only way to go IMO) you can get fluid or air leakage. I've had plenty of calipers with sloppy enough threads to let fluid and air past during bleeding - my clutch was a case in point a few nights ago (Nobody told me that the spring in the slave pushes the piston out far enough to drain the master cylinder :smt013 lol)

Thanks for the replies/info.
As you may have guessed I have had previous problems with sloppy threads and crudded threads, hence my search for stainless.
Thanks for the size Dale, If I have a stainless replacement then I wont need to run a tap down the thread, the stainless will be as good as a tap !
