Shock questions

#1 Post by fatboy » Fri May 27, 2016 6:06 pm

Im at the stage now where I can throw a bit of money at the rear shock, which is a white spring Sachs, a tad too harsh in its present form, so..
rebuild and re spring present unit, cost not yet known ?
mid level Wiburs/Hyperpro/ Nitron for £ 350 to £500?
all out posh remote resevior unit for £ 600 upward?
are shocks with a remote really superior?

All thoughts appreciated

I would suggest a refurb now - around 100 and then source an ohlins to be rebuilt in the future

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

I've got a Nitron going spare as I've swapped in an Ohlins. It was on there when I bought the bike and it would need adjusting to someone of a lighter frame.

How much would you want for it and how do you rate it ?

Difficult to say as I know it's sprung too hard for my 10 stone frame. That said I can't tell much difference between it and the ohlins but then that's sprung too hard too.

I put it through 3 track days and it seemed fine and very consistent. It's definitely better than the standard one.

Since I took it off I found out it has a ride height adjustment too.

Maybe it would be worth asking a suspension person if they're easy to work with, e.g. adjusting the shim stack to weight.

The internet in general seems to rate them highly. I'd like £150 for it.

I think I'd have to say no to that one as the sole purpose of buying it would be as a temporary use shock while mine is re sprung ect.
Thanks for the info though.
I'll just have to have another summer of trying to keep my arse in the seat, hanging off it like a racing snake.
Those lardy boys dont know how easy they got it :smt003 :smt003

Hi FB - I've got an Ohlins which will probably be surplus to requirements in the near future that has been serviced by Revs Racing in the last 12 months and has done less than 1000 miles since. It also has had the compression valving substantially reduced to take the harshness out of the ride and has also had the spring rate reduced by about 15% for the same reason.

It also has full ride height adjustment, but would need a set of Mille/Tuono triangles and dogbone to suit. It won't work with standard Falco triangles and dogbone.

I'm after £250 for it, not sure if that's outside your budget or not...
