Oil....

#1 Post by Obiwan Kenobi » Tue May 19, 2015 12:58 pm

At the risk of a battering from the site police, can I ask how much oil to initially put in after draining oil out through both drain holes and replacing oil filter too?

Looks to be about 3.7 or 3.8 litres from the searching I've done, but searching 'oil' throws up about tentyeleventeenth pages of results to look through...

And its a secret what grade oil I'm using as I don't want a debate about 10w/40 or 15w/50 or semi or fully or decaff or what the mean temperature is where I live or whatever...

Thanks for your help.

Hi Obiwan

It's in the Workshop manual - I know because I've just done mine - it tells you how much to put in at first, then to run it and then top it up.

Unfortunately I can't remember the exact amounts and don't have my manual to hand but it's easy for you to look up.

I think by the time it was done and topped up, I'd emptied the whole of the 4 Litres I'd bought.

I too did mine recently, i started by adding 3.5 litres, and put another 400ml in after topping up. The oil sits 1cm below the 'Max' level on the tank(checking immediately after an 80 mile ride), a little higher than i would normally have it but i think it will be OK.
