Falco ignition switch replacement

#1 Post by mangocrazy » Sun Apr 05, 2015 10:19 pm

I'm not entirely sure how it happened, but while working on the blue Falco I managed to snap the lower part of the ignition switch (the plastic part that does the electrical bit, not the top part that does the key/lock bit). I'm guessing there was already a weakness there, or it wouldn't have fractured. The part that fractured has two wires leading out from it, with a two-pin connector on the end.

I tracked down the part number (AP8124593 ) and decided that Ultimate Parts were too spendy for my liking (£61.00 plus their exorbitant P&P charges), so went trawling the web. I chanced upon a ScooterWorks ad for a part listed for an RS125, that had an updated version of said part number. But for a far more reasonable £33 inc. P&P:

It has the same 2-wire connection as the Falco and certainly looks the same. And it also appears I may get an ignition lock and two keys included in the price (UP price was for just the plastic lower part). More info as it happens...

Part came as promised, and it is the complete ignition switch assembly, complete with two keys. Everything fits perfectly and it even comes with a pair of 'waisted' bolts that automatically shear at a certain torque. It is the exact same part as people like Ultimate parts are selling for over £200.

I just unscrewed the two philips screws that connect the electrical lower part to the mechanical top part and and fitted it to my existing ignition switch. So I now have a spare ignition switch barrel and 2 spare keys.
