I think he's already got one, Jay. But I was surprised at how prices have gone up for Ohlins shocks for 1st Gen RSVs. I got an immaculate aftermarket Ohlins shock with all the bits, including hydraulic preload adjuster, for about £220 about 5 years ago.
I had thought about looking out for an Ohlins for the blue Falco, but I think I may stick with the Sachs if that's the going rate.

Just a thought . . . would a Futura side stand fit the Falco, and it would it offer any advantage? I happen to have a spare one.
Perhaps someone such as Jay who has both a Falco & a Futura could compare?

Aye I've got the AP8123973 ohlins. (Or so I believe going by the seller) Just looking for the correct linkages now but the only ones I can find are on US Ebay. 1 I don't want to have to wait an age for them to get here and 2 I'm reading about the US bikes being a year behind EU bikes so that would make the 01 U.S. linkage I found actually a 2000 linkage ???

I've had bits from Yankeeland in a week. I waited longer than that for a linkage and triangles to turn up on UK ebay. Paid about 30 quid as I remember. When I was being nosey though I noticed that some breakers just leave them on the swing arm when they sell them. Look at listings, ask em to split if you see some.squadron Nero wrote:Aye I've got the AP8140 ohlins. As for getting the correct ones, yup it's a pain in the arse. I bought mine from a place that had a picture of the bike with the advert so I could ID what it was.

Yes Graham the shocks are becoming quite expensive, not really sure they will fit any other bike that the falco and the futura with a respring for the extra weight.
Mart the side stand off the fut is similar to the falco and sits too close to the bike, sorry mate but is pants!!!!!
Karl the linkages and dog bone you require are not the same as the falco.I have been reading the post on fb and commented on that.
If you get the correct dog bone and want the bearings and seals changing, I could do this for a coupe of pints at marches meet.
Be also careful of what you post up as the later linkages are becoming rarer and somebody will snap it up?
Inbox either myself, Mangocrazy, D rider, Willapotamous or Aladinsane who will be able to identify the part you need.

There is one more bike that is placing a demand on the Ohlins shocks .... the non-R version of the Mille - swapping out their Sachs (which are somewhat better than our Falco Sachs) for the Mille-R Ohlins units.blinkey501 wrote:Yes Graham the shocks are becoming quite expensive, not really sure they will fit any other bike that the falco and the futura with a respring for the extra weight.
There are a lot of Milles out there (in comparison to Falcos) and having noticed a growing number of them upgrading to the Ohlins units, I think this is the additional demand that's probably responsible for the increased cost.

Thanks all, especially Jay for finding me the correct linkages. That's me all sorted with a Mille swinger and ohlins rear suspension. I guess all that's left is the long wait for it all to get here then get it all bolted on.
The only thing left for me now is some Oz wheels but they really will have to wait as my wallets just taken a right proper beating.

I'm not sure I'm going to make the marches meet now. We've extended our holiday and I'll be flying back from the U.S on the Friday (15th) and I think it's lunchtime Saturday (uk time) we land back here.blinkey501 wrote:

Thanks for the offer though, much appreciated 👍
I think I could manage changing the shock but the swinger is going to be hard as I now only have my abba stand (never mind the lack of knowledge) so I was thinking I'll take it all to Griff to bolt on and he can setup the shock for my weight at the same time. If I'm doing that I may as well get him to do the bearings & seals at the same time so it's all like new.

If you have the abba stand it is very easy to do - with out it or equivalent it is very hard
Contact abba and buy a set of foot rest mounts - they bolt in to one of the foot rest bolt holes and the abba stand lifts
From there - thus allowing the swing arm bolt to be removed!
Use the lower foot rest mount iirc
Remember you will need a new chain or split link
Don't forget a hugger

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Ah, I thought it would be useless for the job. Should've guessed they'd sell some sort of modification kit to allow the swingarm to be removed.
Even though I think I'd rather send it to Griff. At least I'll know it's all done properly. I'd still need to take it somewhere to get the suspension set up and it'll save me having to buy any special tools or kit.
I've read through the sticky on swingarm removal and although it doesn't seem too taxing, I'd rather watch somebody do it first. What I need is a cheap bike to have a practice on that doesn't matter if I fook it up.

If so bring it to mine? You can borrow my spanners an do it yourself.
I can watch to make sure you are doing things right.
There is something more satisfying doing the job yourself and you will learn something about your bike.
Send me the swingarm and shock by post and I will check the bearings.
Oh and setting up an ohlins shock for your weight is a little bit more complicated than just bolting it in and tweaking.
You will need a spring for your weight and a service to get the best from this shock
I suggest you save a bit of money. Hop on some scales and take a note of your weight.
Box the shock up and send it to Revs racing with your weight and what bike it is. John will service the shock. Sort out the spring rate.
If you do this and have it sent back to mine when you fit it we can sort out the static sag etc .
I can set the rear shock so it suits you.
Believe me I thought the ohlins was good. A serviced ohlins with the correct spring for your weight is Massive.
Within 60 seconds of setting off on the bike with a serviced shock you will know where your money is well spent.

Tolerance will be our undoing.
